Can hearing loss be reversed? Research reveals clues that could regrow the cells that help us hear

The most common cause of hearing loss is progressive because hair cells—the primary cells to detect sound waves—cannot regenerate if damaged or lost. Now, researchers at the Del Monte Institute for Neuroscience are getting closer to identifying the mechanisms that may promote this type of regeneration in mammals.

Out in STEM speaker series

Out in STEM (oSTEM), the University’s first professional and academic LGBTQ+ student organization, will host representatives from the Rochester Victory Alliance as part of its spring semester speaker series on Friday, February 17, from 5 to 6 p.m. in Genesee Hall, Room 308. Learn about the various fields involved in the Rochester Victory Alliance’s HIV vaccine development, network with other queer students over snacks, and get application advice for upcoming conferences.

oSTEM is open to queer-identifying students and allies of all majors who are looking for professional, academic, and personal development opportunities such as roundtable discussions, career workshops, social events, and more. Grand rounds webinar on the Medical Center's equity and anti-racism action plan

Attend the next public health grand rounds webinar on Friday, February 17, from noon to 1 p.m. EST. The Clinical and Translational Health Institute’s Edith Williams, founding director of the Office of Health Equity Research, and Theresa Green, director of health equity education, will present a progress report on the Medical Center’s equity and anti-racism action plan. Pre-registration is required. University night at the Amerks
