Statement of support for transgender community from University leadership

“To the transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse members of the University community, we want to reassure you that this office and all those throughout the institution who work to promote, diversity, equity, and inclusion, see and celebrate you no matter where you are in your gender exploration,” write University President Sarah Mangelsdorf, Provost David Figlio, CEO of the Medical Center Mark Taubman, and Interim Vice President for Equity and Inclusion Adrienne Morgan in a statement for Transgender Day of Visibility. Eastman Community Music School and the Strong National Museum of Play formalize partnership

Eastman Community Music School and the Strong National Museum of Play have formalized their existing partnership by expanding musical programming offered to the museum’s patrons, predominantly focusing on events for children and seniors. Learn more about the partnership and upcoming events.

Flags will be lowered for Lori McKissock

University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be lowered Tuesday, April 11, for Lori McKissock, a lead billing and account specialist at Strong Memorial Hospital, who died on March 27. McKissock joined the University staff in 2021.

Register for Commencement Weekend

Eligible members of the Class of 2023 can now register for the University Commencement Ceremony, other ceremonies and events happening throughout the weekend, and to claim their guest tickets. Registration is required to participate in the big weekend. Register now.

Apply to the NSF CMAP undergrad physics workshop summer program by April 8

The Center for Matter at Atomic Pressures, an NSF Physics Frontiers Center, is offering a one-week, residential, summer workshop program for undergraduates currently enrolled at US universities and colleges. The in-person program, the Discovery Science Center Summer School for Matter at Extreme Conditions in the Laboratory and the Cosmos, will be held June 26–30 (move-in: June 25; move-out: July 1) at the University. There is no fee to apply or attend. Roundtrip travel for nonlocal students, meals, and housing in an on-campus residence hall will be provided to accepted students. Students must apply online by April 8.

Community-based participatory research pipeline to pilot awards

Academic and community partners who completed or intend to complete the Clinical and Translational Science Institute’s “Introduction to Community-Based Participatory Research” (CBPR) training, or who have demonstrated experience in CBPR can apply for up to $15,000 in Community-Based Participatory Research Pipeline to Pilot Awards. Applications are due Monday, April 24, by 5 p.m. and should focus on pilot research that leads to a pilot funding application from the institute or to independent external funding. Research teams who apply for this opportunity must consist of at least one University faculty member and at least one community partner from the Greater Rochester area.

Learn about Simon’s business degree programs designed for working professionals

Considering a part-time business degree? Learn more about Simon Business School’s programs at an upcoming session:

  • Online MS in business analytics for managers virtual experience on Tuesday, April 4, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Immerse yourself in the Simon experience by interacting with a staff member and other prospective students, observing a class (Policy and Ethics), and obtaining insight into the graduate business school experience. Attendees will receive an application fee waiver, a $100 value.
  • Chat with Simon’s part-time programs staff on Thursday, April 6, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Flaum Atrium. The first 10 registrants will receive a voucher for Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters and all visitors will receive an application fee waiver, up to a $150 value.

Opioid overdose prevention training

Join Strong Recovery for opioid overdose prevention training on Tuesday, April 11, from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Gowen Room, Wilson Commons. All attendees over age 18 will receive a free Narcan kit. Registration is required, and the training is open to all students, faculty, and staff. Brought to you by the UHS Health Promotion Office, Department of Public Safety, and the Center for Student Conflict Management.

Feel supported with ‘Imagining Possible FutURes’

The next “Imagining Possible FutURes” conversation is planned for Wednesday, April 19, at 10:30 a.m. The location will be provided after you register. Explore how to feel supported and how to support others on both sides of Elmwood. All members of the University community including staff, faculty, and students are welcome to attend. The conversation will be facilitated in a restorative circle format and offer space for staff to share ideas, hopes, and goals in a supportive environment. The purpose is to encourage one another, make connections, and see what changes can be made today. Register to attend.
