Parkinson’s is the fastest-growing neurodegenerative disease in the world and a growing number of scientists are linking the disease’s rise to air pollution, pesticides, and a ubiquitous chemical pollutant. The team of neurologists, neuroscientists, toxicologists, epidemiologists, and researchers at the University’s Institute for Human Health and the Environment are examining the impact of environmental chemical exposure on the brain.

Celebration for graduating international students and families
Graduating international students and their families are invited to join University Trustee Evans Lam ’83, ’84S (MBA) and Jane Gatewood, vice provost for global engagement, on Friday, May 12, to recognize the accomplishments of this group and welcome everyone to the global alumni family while commemorating this milestone. Staff throughout the University community are encouraged to volunteer at the University Commencement Ceremony, which will take place in Fauver Stadium at the Brian F. Prince Athletic Complex on Friday, May 12, at 9 a.m. Volunteers will be a part of the excitement and have the opportunity to celebrate with the graduates. In addition to watching the ceremony in person, volunteers will receive a complimentary ticket to the graduate and family food truck picnic. ‘Lunch and Learn’ about Simon’s medical management program
Stop by the Medical Center to connect with Simon Business School’s part-time programs staff, current medical management students and alumni, and Senior Lecturer and Faculty Director Sam Ogie at the “Medical Management Lunch and Learn” on Monday, May 1, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Ogie will share more about how the program will help you look at the business of research, medicine, and health care in a new way. Refreshments and a light lunch will be provided. Attendees will also receive an application fee waiver ($150 value). Registrants are invited to stop by any time during the event hours.
Webinar on men’s mental health crisis
To kick off Mental Health Awareness Month, join Johnny Cole ’19, ’20 (T5), founder of Hey Brother Co., on Wednesday, May 3, from noon to 1 p.m. for a webinar focused on the numerous challenges men face in the modern world and his approach to addressing them through men’s work. Virtual open house for master’s in medical humanities program
The Department of Health Humanities and Bioethics will be hosting a virtual open house for their master’s in medical humanities program on Thursday, May 4, at 7 p.m. Learn more about the biopsychosocial model and how it informs the curriculum as well as graduate outcomes for students interested in pursuing careers in medicine. Participate in health research
The Clinical and Translational Science Institute supports a local registry of individuals who are interested in volunteering for future health research. If you join, University researchers may contact you in the future to ask you to take part in a research study. You can decide at that time whether or not you want to participate. Visit the UR Health Research website to sign up for the local registry. Additionally, the National Institutes of Health supports a national registry of individuals interested in health research participation, connecting volunteers with researchers across the county. Visit ResearchMatch.org to add your name to the national registry.
