Virtual panel: ‘The Israeli Judiciary and the Future of Israeli Democracy’

Hundreds of thousands of Israelis have participated in protests opposing a proposed overhaul of the Israeli judicial system. With the Knesset back in session, will Benjamin Netanyahu’s government attempt to enact those changes? Join the University’s Democracy Center and its panel of experts at 6 p.m. today, May 10, to learn how the judicial overhaul, if enacted, would alter the functioning of Israeli political institutions, and how the contest over judicial independence in Israel compares to other challenges to democracy around the world. The panel features Tom Ginsburg, a professor of international law and political science at the University of Chicago; Guy Grossman, a professor of political science at the University of Pennsylvania; and Gretchen Helmke, a professor of political science at Rochester. Register here.
