SECURITY TIP

Student employment scams strike again

There has been a recent uptick in fake emails sent to students offering employment opportunities. These phishing messages come from scammers posing as faculty members who request the “hired” individual provide their bank account information for direct deposit purposes. University IT is blocking the emails as they are reported. If you get a suspicious email, please report it to abuse@rochester.edu. If you have communicated with the person, stop responding. If you have given the person money, contact the Department of Public Safety to file a police report and suspend the impacted accounts immediately. University IT offers tips on how to spot the red flags and examples of the most recent phishing attempts.

River Campus groundbreaking

black and white photo of man holding a shovel filled with dirt as other men stand behind.1927: President Rush Rhees ceremoniously turned the first spadeful of earth to mark the groundbreaking for the University’s River Campus on the site of the former Oak Hill Country Club. As historian Arthur May noted in History of the University of Rochester, 1850-1962, “trustees, faculty, alumni, and townspeople smiled the joy in their hearts.” Check out a brief video of the construction between 1927 and 1930.
