Outlook Web Access (OWA) email is currently only available to users connected to the University network from either an on-premise connection or through VPN. This action was taken on Friday, May 26, due to an email phishing scam in which several individuals had their credentials compromised. University IT and Information System Division IT (ISD) will continue to evaluate the situation this week to determine the next steps for OWA. If you need assistance accessing University VPN or are having other issues related to this change, please contact the University IT Help Desk: (585) 275-2000 or URMC ISD: (585) 275-3200.
“I really just encourage first-year students to try new things at their own pace,” says Crystal Cusimano-Figueroa, assistant dean of orientation and new student programs in the College. “Figure out where your community is on campus. Take your time and don’t feel the need to kind of jump into everything all at once because you do have time to explore.”
Volunteer during Welcome Week for incoming AS&E undergraduates
Welcoming new students and families to the College in August is a team effort. Help the AS&E undergraduate orientation team by volunteering for Welcome Week. From staffing check-in to greeting parents and families, there are many opportunities to connect with the newest members of the Yellowjacket family in their first days at Rochester. Centennial Sculpture Park ribbon-cutting and Celebration Day at MAG
Join the Memorial Art Gallery on Sunday, June 4, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and Celebration Day to officially open Phase II of the Centennial Sculpture Park to the community at the corner of University Ave and Prince Street.
The ribbon-cutting takes place at 11 a.m. Celebration Day will follow and includes lawn games (near the corner of Goodman and University) and boxed lunches, snacks, and drinks for purchase from noon to 4 p.m.; art projects with the Creative Workshop (under the tent), performances from School of the Arts students at the Rashid Johnson Community Pavilion, and a National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) informational table from 1 to 4 p.m.; and Yoga Under the Rainbow at 3 p.m.
Register for the Biological Stain Commission Conference
The agenda is set and there is still time to register for the 42nd annual Biological Stain Commission Conference, hosted by the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine on June 9 in the Sarah Flaum Atrium, Medical Center. Speakers from Yale University, Georgia State University, Miami University of Ohio, the Biological Stain Commission, and the Medical Center will discuss the future of biomarkers and tissue applications. Registration is free for University undergraduate and graduate students, with monetary prizes for winning posters. CME credits are available. Learn more and register here.
1972:Loretta Ford was appointed dean of the School of Nursing and director of nursing at the Medical Center. The Department of Nursing become the School of Nursing in July 1972. Ford, an accomplished clinician and researcher who helped pioneer the field of nurse practitioner, not only raised the national profile of Rochester but influenced the entire study and practice of nursing in America.
