New technique may help achieve mass production fusion energy

Researchers at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics including Igor Igumenshchev, a senior scientist, and Valeri Goncharov, a distinguished scientist and theory division director and an assistant professor of research in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, have, for the first time, experimentally demonstrated a method called dynamic shell formation, which may help achieve the goal of creating a fusion power plant.

Flags will be lowered for Ashok Shah

University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be lowered on Thursday, July 13, for Ashok Shah, a professor emeritus of medicine in the gastroenterology unit, who died on June 11. Shah joined the University faculty in 1972.

Virtual cooking class with the Latin Alumni Network

Join chef Paola “Morena” Muciño of Morena’s Taste and the Latin Alumni Network on Wednesday, July 12, for a virtual evening of conversation, guided cooking demonstration, and connecting over a shared meal. No cooking experience is required. Participants of all skill levels can follow along step-by-step or watch and be inspired by the culinary demonstration. The event is free and open to everyone. Registration open for ‘Stories in Health Care’

Open to all undergraduate and graduate students and faculty, and staff learners, “Stories in Health Care” (MHB 420/220) is offered in fall 2023 on Thursdays from 3:30 to 6 p.m. The class explores the ways that stories and storytelling structure medical experience, practice, and knowledge.
