TODAY'S UPDATES

Short hiatus planned for @Rochester next week

@Rochester will take a brief break from July 31 to August 4, with no issues planned during that time. We’ll return to our regular weekday schedule on Monday, August 7.

SECURITY TIP

Are you sharing too much information on email?

While there is a proliferation of new communication tools, email is still a primary means of communication both within the University and externally. Email allows quick and efficient conduct of business, but if used carelessly or unlawfully, it carries the risk of harm to the University and members of its community. With hackers bombarding people with scams to gain access to accounts, University IT reminds the University community that it’s important to remain vigilant and to know whether the information you’re sharing is high-, moderate-, or low-risk data. The University has a helpful Email Use Policy to help you better understand what scope of sharing is acceptable and what to do if your email or credentials have been compromised.

FOR FACULTY AND STAFF

As a University employee, you may have access to different family care benefits, including Care.com premium memberships, subsidized backup care, daycare tuition discounts, and the child care subsidy. Only new hires or employees with a qualifying life event can apply for the child care subsidy outside the annual application window. Visit the Family Care website for details and how to enroll.

FOR THE COMMUNITY

Simon part-time programs ‘Lunch and Learn’

Stop by the Miner Library at the Medical Center on Tuesday, July 25, between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to connect with Simon Business School’s part-time programs staff, current students, and alumni. Learn about Simon’s Executive MBA, Professional MBA, and MS in medical management program, tuition benefits, merit scholarships, and more. A hot lunch will be provided, and attendees will receive an application fee waiver of up to $150 value.

Bruster’s Ice Cream fundraiser at Medical Center next week

Purchase a two-scoop dish of ice cream on Wednesday, August 2, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and a portion of the sales will be donated to Friends of Strong in support of patient- and family-centered care. The Bruster’s truck will be in front of Golisano Children’s Hospital on Crittenden Boulevard with 10 flavors to choose from—including a gluten-free, a vegan, and a fat-free, no-sugar-added option. Advance tickets are recommended and available at the hospital gift shop. Call (585) 275-2420 with questions.

Attend the 2023 Open Education Conference

The River Campus Libraries wants to send you to the virtual 2023 Open Education Conference, November 7–9. Each year, the conference offers the opportunity to share and learn more about open educational resources, open pedagogy, and initiatives that seek to foster universal access to information and knowledge. This year, the libraries will sponsor the attendance for five individuals. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to fill out an interest form by Friday, August 25.
