New mobile CPR training station comes to Rochester, Finger Lakes

Earlier this week, UR Medicine leaders, in collaboration with the American Heart Association, introduced New York’s first mobile hands-only CPR training station. The portable CPR kiosk—the second in the US—brings critical training opportunities to residents of the Rochester and Finger Lakes region and potentially improves the bystander response rate.

Writing retreat for AS&E graduate students

The Graduate Writing Project is hosting an in-person writing retreat from August 7–9, from 1 to 4 p.m. each day. Writing retreats are designed for AS&E graduate students working on graduate-level writing such as dissertations, theses, proposals, and publications. This structured writing experience offers guidance, accountability, community, and the option to work one-on-one with a writing consultant. Register online and email Liz Tinelli with questions.

FOR FACULTY AND STAFF

Career Path Modernization project update

The Career Path Modernization (CPM) project will officially roll out in approximately six months. In January, staff will learn how their job will fit into the new structure. A job library and the University’s pay structures will be published to provide visibility to jobs across the University. As January grows closer, resources will continue to be added to the CPM website to prepare managers and staff to understand the job structure.

The latest updates to the CPM website include a project timeline video, project timeline chart, job structure information, and updated frequently asked questions. The CPM project team held a community forum in June. If you were unable to attend, you can find a recording here or review the presentation slides, and use the CPM feedback form to share any questions or comments.

University transitions to 12 a.m. day divide

This summer, the University is standardizing the day divide to 12 a.m. (midnight) for employees. The day divide defines the start of a new work day. Currently, the University has three different day divides, 7 p.m., 11 p.m., and midnight. There will be minimal impact on hourly employees and no action is required. This transition will not affect shift schedules, shift differentials, or pay rates. Review the FAQs to learn more, including the rollout timeframe, why the University is making this change, and how employees can determine if they are on a midnight day divide.

Donation supports employee participation in Wilmot Warrior Weekend

Thanks to support from a local donor, University employees can run, walk, or ride as part of Wilmot Cancer Institute’s first-ever Wilmot Warrior Weekend and register at no charge to the participant. Funds are limited; register by September 1 using discount code URBREAKAWAY.

Retirement service credit waiver

Did you know that if you have prior service at an eligible institution, you can use some or all of that time to waive the two-year waiting period for the University’s direct contribution to the 403(b) retirement program? Complete the retirement service credit waiver in HRMS (Main Menu > Self Service > Benefits > Retirement Service Credit) within 90 days of your hire date to receive retroactive contributions.

FOR THE COMMUNITY

Deadline for Simon’s part-time programs extended to August 1

If you’re looking to pursue a graduate business degree without putting your career on pause, consider one of Simon’s part-time programs: Executive MBA, Professional MBA, and MS in medical management. In addition to tuition benefits, University employees are also eligible for merit-based scholarship consideration, which can help offset the remaining tuition costs after tuition benefits are applied. Classes start in August—apply for free today.
