University performers, venues featured at Rochester Fringe Festival

The University is a founding partner of the Rochester Fringe Festival, which returns for its 12th year September 12–23. This year’s festival features performances by students, faculty, staff, and alumni from across the University. Additionally, Eastman School of Music venues will play host to several events. TODAY'S UPDATES

Flags will be lowered for Niels Lund

University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be lowered on Tuesday, August 1, for Niels Lund, a professor emeritus of anesthesiology, who died on July 6. Lund joined the University faculty in 1986.

Nominations open for Genesee Staff Council representatives including School of Medicine and Dentistry and School of Nursing

Nominations are open for district representatives of the Genesee Staff Council. The council discusses issues important to University staff and shares perspectives with senior administration. Serving on the council is open to full-time and part-time staff in the districts listed online. This year, the council will include staff representatives from the School of Medicine and Dentistry and the School of Nursing. Nominate yourself or a staff member by July 30. Voting will take place August 14–28. Each participating University division has an allocated number of representatives; refer to the council website for details and a printable nomination flyer. New faculty orientation

Newly appointed full-time faculty and instructors of all ranks with multi-year contracts are invited to attend “Launching Academic Careers at Rochester: New Faculty Orientation” on Monday, August 28, in Rush Rhees Library. Breakfast begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by plenary sessions on the University’s infrastructure, an introduction to faculty governance, and sessions on support for research, scholarship, and promoting an inclusive and respectful community. Buffalo Bills discount tickets

The Buffalo Bills are offering all University faculty, staff, retirees, and families the chance to purchase discounted tickets to select 2023 Buffalo Bills pre-season and home games, subject to availability. Upcoming strategic planning discussion forums

All students, faculty, and staff are invited to join a discussion forum to learn more about the University’s Boundless Possibility 2030 strategic plan goals and objectives, ask questions, and provide feedback. A virtual session via Zoom will take place at noon on Friday, July 28, and 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 3. No registration is required. Visit the schedule of upcoming forums.

Lecture: ‘Advocacy—Taking Action to Create Change’

The Department of Psychiatry, in partnership with the Departments of Medicine, Neurology, and Surgery; the School of Nursing; Wilmot Cancer Institute; and the Medical Center’s Office of Equity and Inclusion, hosts the 11th annual Summer Brown Bag Series, an educational series focused on all facets of inequity.

The next session, “Advocacy—Taking Action to Create Change,” takes place on Wednesday, August 2, from noon to 1 p.m. with speaker Brittan Hardgers, founder of Next Generation Men of Transition and a patient care officer at the Medical Center. A Q&A will follow from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Participants may attend virtually or in person at the School of Nursing. Register here.

Hartnett Gallery now accepting exhibition proposals

The Hartnett Gallery in Wilson Commons) is now accepting proposals for events, performances, or exhibitions to be hosted during the upcoming academic year. If your department or student organization is interested in hosting an event or exhibition, fill out a proposal form.
