Science backs mind-body tools for cancer-related anxiety
A new set of national guidelines recommends that cancer patients use mind-body techniques—particularly mindfulness meditation—to ease anxiety and depression during and after treatment. Alissa Huston, an associate professor of medicine, was part of a national team that reviewed scientific data and made recommendations based on clinical study outcomes.

School of Nursing to host health care simulation summit
The School of Nursing is partnering with Simulation Educators of Western New York to host the 2023 Simulation Summit, “Innovations in Simulation: Reimagine Your Horizon,” on Monday, September 18. Located in Helen Wood Hall’s new expansion, the summit will offer best-practice-based experiential workshops, interactive breakouts, and plenary sessions by national and local experts across a broad range of health care professions. Registration is free, and space is limited. Five contact hours are available.
Information sessions on Alzheimer's disease and prevention research
Join Anton Porsteinsson, director of the Alzheimer’s Disease Care, Research and Education Program (AD-CARE), and Emily Clark, associate director of AD-CARE, for an in-person presentation about Alzheimer’s disease, research developments, and prevention research opportunities. Sessions will be held on Tuesday, September 19, from 4 to 5 p.m. and on Thursday, September 28, from 1 to 2 p.m. at 315 Science Parkway, Entrance C. Registration is required.
