The latest COVID-19 guidance and resources

A message shared yesterday with the University community offered a few reminders of the current University guidelines on COVID-19. All updated COVID-19 content and resources will continue to be posted to the COVID Resource Center website. You can review information for students, for faculty and staff, and find specific information for faculty, staff, and students at the Medical Center campus on the Medical Center Intranet site (VPN or login may be required). Biometric screening clinics in Café 601 and Helen Wood Hall this week

This week, schedule your biometric screening to get personalized recommendations to improve your health. Then finish up your 2023 personal health assessment by completing your online health surveys and earn a $125 incentive through Well-U.

Workshop on AI and assessments

Artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models, like ChatGPT, are changing the teaching landscape. While these tools are not new, they have become more prevalent. As a result, traditional assessment strategies need to be rethought. Learn evidence-based assessment approaches that evaluate student learning by focusing on process rather than product in a one-hour workshop offered by the Teaching Center on Thursday, September 14, at 11 a.m. via Zoom. Prioritize your stress level with Well-U

Stress can hinder your inner harmony and focus but with Well-U’s Stress Reduction program, starting on Thursday, September 14, you can learn how to master clarity and balance. Once completed, you will earn $100, so reserve your spot now.

VSP Vision Care reminder

If you enrolled in VSP Vision Care for 2023—you would see Benefit Extras Before Tax on your paystub—you don’t need a card to utilize your benefits. When you go to a vision appointment, you can tell them your VSP ID number, which is three zeros followed by your employee ID number. For more information about your coverage here.

Explore graduate program offerings at the Warner School

Attend a Warner School of Education and Human Development’s virtual admissions information session from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 13, to learn more about graduate programs in counseling, educational leadership, education policy, health professions education, higher education, human development, online teaching, program evaluation, and teaching. The Warner School welcomes applications on a rolling basis. Apply anytime through October 15 for an entry term as early as spring 2024. Contact Warner’s admissions office with questions. Polylogues, a solo show about polyamory

Attend a performance of Polylogues, an interview-based solo show from writer/performer Xandra Nur Clark that investigates real peoples’ experiences with nonmonogamy and love in all its forms. The event takes place on Sunday, September 17, at 7 p.m. in the Todd Theatre Lobby.

Boost your data visualization skills

The River Campus Libraries can help you take your Excel, Tableau, and ArcGIS Online skills to the next level with Data Bloom, a series of workshops designed to help you create attractive data visualizations. At the end of a series, students can submit to the Visualization Contest. Prizes will be given for the best undergraduate and graduate student visualizations and the most popular (People’s Choice award). Workshops are open to everyone. Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities symposium

Register today to join the Del Monte Institute for Neuroscience and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center community for its annual symposium, “Uncovering the Mysteries of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities: A Scientific Exploration.” The symposium aims to bring together experts from diverse fields to discuss and debate the latest discoveries in neurodevelopmental processes across species, shedding light on the brain’s systems-level function and dysfunction. The event takes place on September 28 and 29 at the Memorial Art Gallery. Registration closes on September 20.

Provost’s fall office hours

University Provost David Figlio holds regular office hours to meet with members of the University community and to learn more about their experiences at Rochester. Fall semester office hours are now available. Use this form to sign up for one of these informal meetings. Spaces are limited. Contact the Office of the Provost if you need assistance or have difficulty accessing the form.

Public tours at MAG

Take a public tour and explore 5,000 years of world art in the Memorial Art Gallery’s collection and temporary exhibitions. Upon arrival, let the Admission Desk know that you wish to join the tour. Public tours are approximately 60 minutes and are included in museum admission, which is free for faculty, staff, and students with their University ID. For September through June, tour times are as follows:

  • Thursdays at 6:45 p.m.
  • Fridays and Saturdays at 11:15 a.m.
  • Sundays at 1 p.m.

Students from area ROTC and NROTC programs, including Priya Wingood from RIT, Mackenzie Downs from St. John Fisher University, and Haonan Zheng ’24, stood vigil yesterday to honor members of the University community who were killed in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
