Pathway program proves access can cultivate scientists

In 2021, the Del Monte Institute for Neuroscience Diversity Commission and the City College of New York launched the program NEUROCITY. To date, the program has put nearly 30 undergraduate students from historically marginalized backgrounds in research labs across University campuses. Drop-in counseling group today on crises abroad

The University Counseling Center is offering a virtual drop-in group today, September 15, at 2 p.m. for students affected by crises abroad.

Fall Career Week events

Fall recruiting season is coming to the University. From September 20–29, students will have the opportunity to connect with employers at multiple in-person and virtual career expos and networking events from the Greene Center for Career Education and Connections designed to help students excel. ‘URPerforming’ talent competition

The International Theatre Program, the Arthur Satz Department of Music, and the Program of Dance and Movement are looking for performers in any discipline—including theater, music, dance, spoken word, magic, comedy, circus arts, and juggling—to participate in this year’s “URPerforming!,” the University’s own version of America’s Got Talent. The event features $1,000 worth of prize money, audience awards, and “celebrity” judges. Find more information on how to participate.

Writing groups for AS&E undergrads

Have writing to do? Join a writing group, held weekly for two hours and led by Writing Fellows. These structured writing sessions are designed to support your writing process through guidance, accountability, and community. Bring any kind of academic, professional, or creative writing. Training on teleresearch

The Clinical and Translational Science Institute has a self-paced online course in Blackboard that walks research teams through important considerations for remote research (teleresearch). Learn about topics such as teleconsent, eConsent, conducting a remote video visit, writing a remote research protocol, and also what University offices can help you along the way. Retiree benefits webinar

Join the Office of Total Rewards for a retiree benefits webinar on Friday, September 22, at 1 p.m. The webinar will cover what it means to be eligible for retiree benefits, health and dental insurance, Medicare, enrollment periods, and other benefits offered to University retirees.

Nominations open for the Undergraduate Women’s Leadership Awards

The Susan B. Anthony Center is accepting nominations for the University’s 2023–24 Undergraduate Women’s Leadership Awards until Friday, September 29. Five awards are presented annually to undergraduate women in recognition of their achievements, service, and contributions to the common good. Find more information about the awards and submit a nomination.

Open house, community dinner at the Gandhi Institute

Get a taste of what goes on at the MK Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence on Saturday, September 16. Attend an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. with a community dinner taking place from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Find food, games, yoga, music, meditation, games, and more at this family-friendly event.

Attend the Steadman Family Awards celebration

The Steadman Family Postdoctoral Associate Prize in Interdisciplinary Research provides a monetary award recognizing outstanding postdoctoral associates or postdoctoral fellows at the University. Attend the Steadman Family Awards event on Thursday, September 21, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. for three-minute research presentations from postdocs across disciplines, followed by an awards ceremony and reception in the Hawkins-Carlson Room, Rush Rhees Library. The event is also part of National Postdoc Appreciation Week 2023.

Immerse yourself in virtual stories

Take your storytelling to a new level. On Friday, September 22, from 1 to 2 p.m., Mary Ann Mavrinac Studio X will lead a workshop on story-driven virtual reality (VR). Learn more about the VR applications that will enable you to create immersive narratives. Register here to attend. Can’t make it? This is one of many “Drop-in Friday” events that will be held throughout the semester. Check out the full schedule of talks, workshops, and other XR-related activities.

School of Nursing hosts 8th annual DNP summit

The School of Nursing’s annual Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Summit takes place October 6, 13, and 20, with the theme “Better Together: DNP and PhD Collaborations.” Sessions will explore how nurses with research and practice doctorates can innovate health care delivery, education, and research together. The webinar series is open to all nurses, health professionals, and students. Registration is free, and three contact hours are available. Review the agenda and register for the summit.

Wilmot Cancer Survivorship Symposium

The Wilmot Cancer Survivorship Symposium is an inclusive event designed to empower and educate all those touched by cancer. The event is dedicated to addressing the unique concerns that cancer survivors face while equipping providers with the tools to enhance patient outcomes during the survivorship phase of care. The virtual event takes place on Friday, November 3. Learn more and register for the symposium.
