Learn about accidental death and dismemberment insurance

September is National Life Insurance Month. The Office of Human Resources has worked with Securian Financial to offer tools on additional resources for University employees. Accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance provides additional financial protection in the event that a covered accident results in an insured employee’s loss of life, limb, or sight—whether that accident occurs at work or elsewhere.

  • In the event of accidental death, this benefit is paid on top of your group universal life (GUL) insurance, not in place of it.
  • For dismemberment, a percentage of the benefit amount is paid to the insured person, according to the severity of the loss.
You must purchase GUL coverage in order to purchase employee optional AD&D coverage. Visit Securian Financial’s educational microsite for more information and to view eligibility requirements.

FOR THE COMMUNITY

DPS offers tips and resources to stay safe and reduce risk

Now that fall has arrived and it’s becoming dark earlier in the evening, the Department of Public Safety (DPS) reminds all community members to practice personal safety habits when walking or biking around the University’s campuses. These include using lighted, well-traveled paths and walkways; using the Safe Ride transportation service for students traveling between the River Campus and University residential locations at night; and calling or texting Public Safety at (585) 275-3333—or picking up a Blue Light phone—if you encounter anything that concerns you. Find the full list of safety tips.
