New UR Faculty system to launch faculty search module
The University is getting a new organization-wide faculty information system called UR Faculty. The tool will streamline workflows, improve data quality, and ensure consistency across schools and units. The project’s first stage will be to implement the Faculty Search module, which will be used for recruiting faculty at all levels across the University. A few searches have been conducted on a pilot basis during the summer of 2023 and it’s anticipated that all faculty recruiting will move to UR Faculty later this fall. Learn more about the project.
Jennie Noll to lead Mt. Hope Family Center
Jennie Noll has joined Mt. Hope Family Center as codirector and a professor of psychology. Noll will share the directorship of the center with current director Sheree Toth, until July 1, when Toth will step down and Noll will assume the directorship. Mt. Hope Family Center was recently awarded a multimillion-dollar Center of Excellence grant renewal from the National Institutes of Health for the TRANSFORM Center. Toth and Noll will work together as codirectors of this five-year award.
All enrolled graduate students seeking to learn how the Financial Aid Office operates and how it works to best support their graduate students can attend a workshop on Wednesday, October 4, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. This hybrid session will be led by financial aid counselors who will help you learn best practices for searching for alternate funding sources such as scholarships and grants, provide contact information for your financial aid counselor, and share general aid option information. The event will be held in the admissions conference room in Wallis Hall and via Zoom. Registration is required.
Seminars provide students with the opportunity to learn from and with each other through discussion and debate. However, students are often hesitant to engage in the seminar format. Learn how to structure seminar courses to optimize student engagement and learning in a one-hour workshop offered by the Teaching Center on Thursday, September 28, from 11 a.m. to noon via Zoom. Faculty session covers effective study strategies
Join the Learning Center on Friday, September 29, from 2 to 3 p.m. in Genesee Hall, Room 325, or via Zoom for a workshop on how to motivate students, promote effective study strategies, and humanize oneself as a professor. As a part of the Well-Being for Life and Learning Training Program, the workshop focuses on ways that professors can support their students in developing and implementing effective study strategies and covers a variety of tactics, from encouraging active learning techniques and regular review sessions to offering guidance on time management and study environments. ‘UR Out’ National Coming Out Day photos
Are you an out member of the LGBTQ community and a University employee? Consider joining the University-wide LGBTQ “UR Out” project. For National Coming Out Day, the LGBTQ Advocacy Committee will share a collage of headshots of all out LGBTQ employees who wish to be included. Names, positions, and other information about participants will not be shared. The collage aims to be a powerful and visible representation that helps to foster a sense of community while letting LGBTQ students, coworkers, and patients know that they are welcome at the University. Fill out this form and follow the instructions therein to submit your photo by Friday, September 29. If you participated in the past, you will still need to sign up this year and submit a photo.
Inclusive STEM teaching group
Instructors from any discipline who teach courses enrolling AS&E students are invited to explore creating and sustaining inclusive learning environments. Drawing on the Inclusive STEM Teaching Project, the Teaching Center group will focus on teaching methods that reduce identity-based performance disparities and improve students’ sense of belonging, self-efficacy, and STEM identity. Participate in a Middle State Commission on Higher Education town hall
The University community is invited to participate in a Middle State Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) town hall from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 28. The virtual event will be held on Zoom and will include draft findings from the self-study report and remarks from President Sarah Mangelsdorf and Provost David Figlio. The self-study is an inclusive process, so your feedback on the draft report will help shape the final version of what is submitted to MSCHE. Register in advance if you plan to attend.
