How to thrive in an open access world

In August 2022, the White House Office of Science Technology Policy issued guidance to federal departments and agencies to make the results of taxpayer-supported research immediately and freely available. That’s considered “open access,” and it includes scholarly outputs, such as data, articles, and books. Make sure you have a clear understanding of what’s available to you when making decisions around open scholarship. Join Moriana Garcia, the scholarly communication librarian for the River Campus Libraries, for an interactive learning session in person or over Zoom, on Wednesday, November 29, from noon to 1 p.m. Register to attend.

Register your summer 2024 program by January 12

If your department or office is planning to host a residential or day program on the River Campus during summer 2024, you must complete the Summer 2024 Program Registration Form by Friday, January 12, at the latest. This form is a required step in the planning process for all River Campus summer programs. If your program is not registered, it may not be allocated resources and space on campus. Contact the Office of Summer and Continuing Studies with questions.

Apply for the 2024 University Research Awards

The request for proposals and online application are now available for the 2024 University Research Awards, providing seed money to enable the development of new, innovative research projects with a high probability of attracting external support in the short term, and further stimulating the research of faculty who have moved beyond research support provided by the University as part of their initial start-up period. Applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31.

Additional details on eligibility, the application and review processes, and post-award follow-up requirements are available on the Office of the Vice President for Research website.

HR Modernization: Review myURHR Demo Days recordings

Thanks to the University community for making myURHR Demo Days a success. Thousands of faculty and staff members got a sneak peek of the University’s new Human Resources information system coming in 2024 and had the opportunity to ask questions. If you are curious how myURHR will look and function, Demo Days video recordings are available. Additionally, the Fall Readiness Survey is open as the myURHR project team wants to continue to hear from you. Participation in Demo Days is not needed to complete the survey.

Mindful Professor Training program

The Mindful University Project is offering its Mindful Professor Training for teaching faculty and course instructors at the University this spring. The program is rooted in cutting-edge research and practices and aims to offer participants a variety of tools to access ways to return to calm, be present with themselves and others, utilize mindful leadership skills, enhance teaching effectiveness, and learn what actions they can take to support students’ well-being.

The training lasts three months and includes seven hour-long workshops and two one-hour mentorship coaching sessions. Find more information and register.
