Sarah Jesse named eighth Memorial Art Gallery director

Sarah Jesse, director of the Academy Art Museum in Easton, Maryland, has been named the Mary W. and Donald R. Clark Director of the Memorial Art Gallery, effective February 26. Jesse brings to Rochester more than 20 years of experience in American art museums, serving in leadership, fundraising, and educational and community programming roles.

Mindful eating pop-up

Stop by the mindful eating table in Hirst Lounge, Wilson Commons, on Friday, December 8, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Grab chocolate, oranges, and drinks, as well as information on the benefits of mindful eating practices.

Join next year’s student orientation team

The Office of Orientation and New Student Programs is accepting applications for the 2024–25 student orientation team. Open to Arts, Sciences & Engineering undergraduate students, team positions (Orientation Leader, Welcome Week Leader, and Welcome Week Volunteer) are responsible for welcoming next year’s first-year, transfer, and exchange students to campus, as well as their families. Perks include on-campus summer housing (Orientation Leaders only) and early move-in for fall 2024. Time commitments and specific responsibilities vary by position, so be sure to review the website for full details on each role. You can also learn more at an upcoming information session, the first of which will be held Wednesday, December 13, at 5 p.m. in Dewey Hall, Room 2-110E.

Queer nail polish party at the BIC

Join the Paul J. Burgett Intercultural Center on Thursday, December 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. to take a break, paint your nails, have some snacks, and enjoy queer community. The event is open to all LGBTQ students and allies and is cosponsored by the Protestant Chapel Community. Register for a reminder.

‘Political Power of Bureaucratic Agents’ research seminar

Join the Goergen Institute for Data Science and the Department of Political Science for “Political Power of Bureaucratic Agents: Evidence from Policing in New York City” with Elisa Wirsching, a PhD Candidate at New York University in the Wilf Family Department of Politics. The research seminar will be held today, November 30, at 2 p.m. in Harkness Hall, Room 329. A Zoom link is available for virtual attendees.

December concerts and events at Eastman

The Eastman School of Music presents a schedule of concerts in December. Most of the concerts are free and open to the public. Events that are ticketed may be booked online or by calling (585) 274-3000.

Apply by December to begin your Simon Professional MBA in January

Share the Warmth: Coat drive for patients in need

Friends of Strong, Advantage Federal Credit Union, and Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department are collecting clean, gently used—or new—men’s winter coats for patients in need who are being discharged from the hospital throughout the coming winter months. Donation collection boxes are in the hospital’s main lobby, the Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters near Sarah Flaum Atrium, and on the ground floor between University ID and post offices (just inside the 256 Crittenden Boulevard loop). The general public may use the donation bin located outside of Advantage’s Penfield branch at 2515 Browncroft Boulevard.

Tree farm proceeds benefit Golisano Children's Hospital

Are you looking for a way to give back while doing your holiday shopping this season? Visit Zoey’s Lovely Heart Club’s eighth annual Tree Farm Fundraiser, on December 2 and 3 at 3614 Rush-Mendon Road (Rt. 251). All proceeds from the fundraiser support Golisano Children’s Hospital and families in the NICU.
