Researchers find neurons work as a team to process social interactions

Researchers led by Lizabeth Romanski, an associate professor of neuroscience at the Del Monte Institute for Neuroscience, have discovered that a part of the brain associated with working memory and multisensory integration may also play an important role in how the brain processes social cues.

Graduate student well-being needs assessment

All University graduate students are invited to participate in an anonymous well-being needs assessment by December 22. The data will allow the UHS Health Promotion Office and Graduate Student Wellness Committee to understand the well-being needs of graduate students better, and help create new programs, services, and systems-level changes to support graduate student well-being. Participants can enter a raffle where three winners will receive an exclusive University wellness basket including a Rochester mug, noise-canceling headphones, a happy lamp, and tea; a Rochester bag; or a Rochester hat.

Health Bites workshop: Injury prevention for children

Join UR Medicine EAP and Well-U on Tuesday, December 12, at noon to learn prevention strategies to reduce injury in children and infants. The workshop is relevant for caregivers, parents, and neighbors. Register here to attend.

Entrepreneurial training for optics and photonics researchers

Are you a University-based researcher utilizing optical technologies or innovations, and interested in exploring the commercialization potential of your research? The Interior Northeast (IN) I-Corps Hub is accepting applications for a regional course from January 8 to February 9. Teams will have the chance to develop their entrepreneurial skills as well as conduct customer discovery research to gauge the need for their technologies in the current market. This is a hybrid course; the majority will be held online, but there is a group trip to the SPIE Photonics West Conference in San Francisco, California. Travel reimbursements will be provided. Transparent Assignment Design Fellowship

Learn how to (re)design non-test assignments to get on-target student work and support first-generation and minoritized student learning in particular. Instructors who teach courses enrolling AS&E students can join a teaching group to learn the transparency in learning and teaching (TILT) framework. Over the spring semester, fellows will meet in person four times for 90 minutes and will receive a $500 non-salary stipend. Register here.
