Sarah Mangelsdorf reappointed University president for 2024–29
Sarah Mangelsdorf, who in July 2019 began as the University’s 11th president, has been reappointed to a new five-year term, as announced by the Board of Trustees. She will additionally continue to serve as the G. Robert Witmer, Jr. University Professor.

The spring semester test of AlertUR will occur tonight at 6 p.m. AlertUR is the University’s emergency notification system, inclusive of the Medical Center. In the event of an emergency, alerts are sent by voice, text, and email message. The purpose of the twice-a-year test is to activate the AlertUR system and check that you can be reached immediately. New Passio Go! app replaces TransLoc to track University shuttles in real time
Passengers riding University shuttles can conveniently track shuttle locations using the newly introduced Passio Go! mobile app. The user-friendly app replaces the Transloc app and provides comprehensive information about specific routes, schedules, and stops. Riders can also set bus arrival alerts and tag favorites, saving time and reducing wait times at bus stops. Additional alerts for route changes or delays keep all riders informed. To use Passio Go!, download the free app for your Apple iOS device or Android, or visit the University’s Passio Go! website on your computer or smartphone. University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be lowered on Thursday, January 25, for Phillip Rogerson, an industrial hygienist in the Department of Environmental Health and Safety, who died on December 30. Rogerson joined the University staff in 2008.
Is your organization interested in using the Community Kitchen? The Community Kitchen is stocked with all the basic kitchen equipment you would need for the majority of recipes—you only need to provide the ingredients. Reservations are required to have an approved kitchen user present. To become an approved kitchen user, you must register and attend an in-person training hosted in the Community Kitchen.
Qigong classes on the River Campus
The Mindful University Project is now offering weekly Qigong classes, open and free to all University students and R-club members. The class will offer the skills and philosophies of Qigong, an ancient system that uses the body, mind, and breath to improve mental and physical health. Classes are held every Monday at 4 p.m. in the Goergen Athletic Center for the spring 2024 semester. You can register here, but walk-ins are also welcome.
LGBTQ spring social and drag show with Aggy Dune
The Paul J. Burgett Intercultural Center invites the University’s LGBTQ students to come together in queer community, get to know Rochester’s LGBTQ faculty and staff, and see a drag performance by Roc royalty Aggy Dune. Enjoy hors d’oeuvres (including sushi), a rainbow lanyard giveaway, pronoun and pride pins, and a raffle for Meliora hats. The event takes place Tuesday, January 23, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in Feldman Ballroom, Douglass Commons, and is open to all LGBTQ students. Transparent Assignment Design Fellowship
Learn how to (re)design non-test assignments to get on-target student work and support first-generation and minoritized student learning in particular. Instructors who teach courses enrolling AS&E students can join a teaching group to learn the transparency in learning and teaching (TILT) framework. Over the spring semester, fellows will meet in person four times for 90 minutes and will receive a $500 non-salary stipend. Register here.
