HR Modernization: New myURHR 2024 timeline and activities

MyURHR, the University’s modern HR workspace replacing HRMS, will launch in the fall of 2024. What can you expect leading up to go-live? Explore the new 2024 myURHR engagement activities timeline for a sneak peek of what’s happening now with the project and what’s to come, including another round of Demo Days as well as training that kicks off this summer. Learn about Simon’s exclusive scholarships for employees

Stop by at your convenience and chat with an admissions representative about Simon Business School’s programs for working professionals on Thursday, January 25, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. in Saunders Research Building, Medical Center. Gain insights tailored to your career goals, and have your questions answered about University tuition benefits and Simon scholarships available to Rochester employees. Merit-based scholarships are applied after tuition benefits. You’ll leave with a Simon gift, an application fee waiver, and a complimentary cup of coffee.

Generative Artificial Intelligence teaching group

Instructors teaching courses that enroll students in the School of Arts and Sciences and the Hajim School of Engineering are invited to join a spring semester Teaching Center group that will discuss the implications of generative AI for teaching and learning and share resources and teaching ideas. Participants will consider how to revise courses in response to generative AI and how and whether to integrate generative AI into student or instructor work. This group will meet in person six times on Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30 pm.  Learn more and register here.

Nominations open for Satcher Awards

The Center for Community Health & Prevention is accepting nominations for the 15th annual Dr. David Satcher Community Health Improvement Awards. Nominations are due by noon Monday, March 25. New this year, a team category has been added to the staff, junior faculty, and senior faculty award categories. The awards reflect the mission of the Center for Community Health & Prevention and the Medical Center to develop and expand community-University partnerships that support community-engaged research and interventions that reduce health inequities and improve communities’ health.

Attend the Presidential Stronger as One Diversity Awards

Join President Sarah Mangelsdorf as she honors the recipients of this year’s Presidential Stronger as One Diversity Awards on Thursday, January 25, at 5 p.m. in the Feldman Ballroom, Douglass Commons. The awards celebrate faculty, staff, students, a member of the Greater Rochester community, and a member of the University’s Board of Trustees whose work supports the equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice priorities of the University. A reception will follow from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Computer Science Colloquium Series: Danny Sabbah

Attend a talk and book signing by Danny Sabbah ’74, ’81 (PhD), the former CTO and general manager of Next Generation Platform at IBM. Sabbah will be discussing his new book, The Heart of Innovation. The event, part of the Department of Computer Science’s colloquium series, takes place from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, January 31, in the Hawkins-Carlson Room, Rush Rhees Library. The first 30 attendees will receive a free copy of the book. Register now.

Grand rounds webinar on the loneliness of the long-term caregiver

Sandhya Seshhadri, a research assistant professor of neurology and at the Center for Health and Technology and an assistant professor of clinical nursing, and Kelly Spahr, chaplain in the Neurology Supportive and Palliative Care Service, present “The Loneliness of the Long-term Caregiver: Exploring Connections for the Disconnected Caregivers of Parkinson’s Disease and Lewy-body Dementia Patients,” the next public health grand rounds webinar, on Friday, February 2, at noon. Susan B. Anthony Center award nominations due February 5

The Susan B. Anthony Center is calling for nominations for two annual awards: the Susan B. Anthony Emerging Leader Award and the Susan B. Anthony Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Emerging Leader Award was established in 2018 to recognize a woman leader who is in the early stages of their career. Candidates should have an affiliation with the University (staff, faculty, alumna, or community partners). The Susan B. Anthony Lifetime Achievement Award was established in 1997 to honor and celebrate women whose lives have been enriched by their years at the University and who have, in turn, inspired other women to advance and lead. Nominees should have a strong affiliation with the University and a “lifetime” of significant achievements.

LLE launches quarterly publication LLE in Focus

The Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) announces the release of the first issue of LLE in Focus, a quarterly magazine-style publication that shines the spotlight on the accomplishments, technological advances, and cutting-edge research performed at LLE. Each issue will feature a specific theme, in addition to highlighting graduate students, awards and honors, and updates from the facility. Read the Winter 2024 issue.
