UR Medicine performs record number of heart transplants in 2023

A record 40 people received life-saving heart transplantation surgeries at Strong Memorial Hospital in 2023, placing Strong among the 37 busiest heart transplant centers in the country. Read more about the cardiac care team.

This program is designed to connect you to a mentor who has been where you are, who will answer questions, give advice, and offer a view into their world. Sign up today.

Tutoring services from the Writing and Speaking Center

The Writing and Speaking Center will offer its full range of tutoring services for undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Arts and Sciences and the Hajim School of Engineering for the spring semester. On the Writing, Speaking, and Argument Program website, you can find opening datesmake an appointment, or learn more about tutoring and writing groups. Instructors can also submit a request for a writing consultant to visit their class and perform a short presentation (about 10–15 minutes) explaining services, including both tutoring and undergraduate writing groups. School of Nursing ‘Lunch and Learn’

Attend a School of Nursing “Lunch and Learn” event today, January 25, at noon, in the Class of ’62 Auditorium, School of Medicine and Dentistry. Sukardi Suba, an assistant professor of nursing, shares his findings on the clinical significance of arrhythmia alarms generated from continuous ECG monitoring in adult ICU patients—and the impact on nurses’ alarm fatigue. Special bistro lunches are included, and the first 25 registrants will receive an “I love SON” water bottle. Register here to attend.

‘Calming U’ meditation classes

Unleash the potential of mindfulness, emotional intelligence, and self-compassion in this four-week course tailored to Rochester students from the Mindful University Project, but open to all University students, staff, and faculty. By attending all four sessions, you will receive a giveaway of your choosing: The Mindful Self-Compassion Workbook, a meditation cushion, or a yoga mat. Register at the links below.

Lecture: ‘Yayoi Kusama—From Avant-Garde to Iconic Collaboration in Fashion’

Join Jeffrey Mayer, a professor of fashion design at Syracuse University, for a lecture at the Memorial Art Gallery on the evolution of Yayoi Kusama as a style icon. Discover how Kusama’s avant-garde sensibilities have continued to captivate the fashion industry and how her collaborations transcend conventional boundaries, creating a lasting impact on the artistic expression within couture. The lecture takes place Thursday, February 8, from 7 to 8 p.m. Learn more and register here. Daily mass at the Catholic Newman Community

On Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays of the spring semester, the Catholic Newman Community will offer daily mass at 12:30 p.m. in the Interfaith Chapel on the River Campus, Sanctuary level.
