“A big issue is the need for medication management and administration,” says Timothy Holahan, an assistant professor of medicine. “If the only necessary support is having someone organize pills for the week and/or reminding or helping the person to take their medications at the right time, home care might be adequate.” However, he notes that if someone is having problems, such as continually taking medicines incorrectly, missing doses, or not getting prescriptions filled, the home may no longer be safe for them.

Meal prep session for students
A 2021 survey found that 68 percent of students reported that they only ate two meals per day. The thought of cooking meals as a full-time student can seem daunting and time-consuming. However, cooking nutritious meals can be quick, cheap, and tasty. Attend a workshop on Wednesday, February 28, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Community Kitchen in Douglass Commons where you will learn recipes for one quick meal and one snack. At the end of the workshop, you’ll be able to eat the meal you prepared and take the recipe with you for later reference. Vegan, nut-free, and gluten-free options will be available. The class is hosted by Rich Ciceron in collaboration with the UHS Health Promotion Office, the Food Pantry, and Simon Business School’s Graduate Business Council. Open to all undergraduate and graduate students. Registration is required.

Remember to make the most of your HSA or FSA by using these funds for qualified medical expenses incurred on or after the effective date of your HSA or FSA. You have until April 30 to submit any remaining claims for qualified services in 2023. You can also utilize your funds by accessing your member portal through HSA Bank or Lifetime Benefit Solutions and visiting the HSA store or FSA store.

LGBTQ leadership lecture and dinner
Kris Hayashi, director of advocacy and action for the National LGBTQ Task Force, gives the Lorri L. Jean and Darrel Cummings LGBTQ Leadership Lecture on Wednesday, February 21, at 6 p.m. in Feldman Ballroom, Douglass Commons. As a public transgender person of color, Hayashi has been a leader in movements for justice and rights for transgender and gender nonconforming communities for over a decade. The event includes a free dinner provided by Salena’s Mexican Restaurant. Registration by today, February 16, is required.
Beat Saber competition
Beat Saber is the most popular virtual reality game of all time, and Mary Ann Mavrinac Studio X wants to crown a University champion. On Friday, February 23, everyone is encouraged to demonstrate their skills to popular music including BTS, Lady Gaga, and The Weeknd, from 1 to 2 p.m. in Studio X. A pair of Beats headphones will be awarded to winners in three categories: highest score, dance moves, and a cappella singing. Register to participate.
OUTBreath for LGBTQ+ community
Following the practices in A Queer Dharma: Yoga and Meditations for Liberation by Jacoby Ballard, Kyle Trenshaw will facilitate two queer-centered spaces of shared experience and support in which participants can develop mindfulness skills for stress reduction and relaxation. All members of the campus community are welcome to join this practice; however, allies will be asked to “step back” to make space for queer voices during debriefs and commit to contributing to the safety of everyone in attendance.
