Save the date: Visiting reaccreditation team shares its findings on April 10

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education, recognized by the US Department of Education as a reliable authority concerning the quality of higher education, is concluding its work on the University’s reaccreditation review process. The visiting reaccreditation team will present its findings on Wednesday, April 10, from 9 to 10 a.m. in the Feldman Ballroom, Douglass Commons; the University community is encouraged to attendLearn more and read the self-study (NetID required) on the provost’s website. The University is reaccredited every eight years, giving the institution access to federal funds, including Title IV, National Science Foundation, and National Institutes of Health. Please note the commission accredits the entire University, not individual schools or programs.

Just and equitable societies

Rochester historian Pablo Sierra Silva published a new book that helps students and researchers study the Black diaspora in Mexico. Sierra Silva’s book and broader research take place in Just and Equitable Societies, one of the areas of distinction identified by Boundless Possibility, the University’s 2030 strategic plan.

You can learn more and ask questions about the strategic plan in a discussion forum on Thursday, March 28, at noon via Zoom. It’s free and open to all. Register to attend.

Applications open for Greene Center summer internship funding

The Greene Center offers summer internship funding that can be used to cover gaps between internship wages and cost-of-living expenses like housing, meals, transportation, and supplies. Applications are now open for undergraduate students in the School of Arts & Sciences and the Hajim School of Engineering who have accepted an internship for this summer to investigate career options, develop skills, and link classroom learning to the world of work. Information on eligibility and application requirements can be found on the Greene Center’s website. The deadline to submit applications is Monday, April 8 at 11:59 p.m.

Workshop on designing accessible assessments

Open to all University instructors, this one-hour Teaching Center Zoom workshop provides best practices for designing assessments that are equitable, accessible, and capable of accurately measuring the intended learning in a course. Register here to attend on Friday, March 22, from noon to 1 p.m.

HR Modernization: Register for myURHR Demo Days 2.0

There’s still time to register for myURHR Demo Days 2.0, beginning next week. Many of the topics delve into specific myURHR functions such as payroll costing allocations, payroll accounting adjustments, managing student workers, effort reporting and certification, and faculty appointments. Additionally, employee self-service and timekeeping sessions are offered again due to the large impact these have on the University community. All are welcome to a live, sneak peek of myURHR, replacing HRMS this fall.

Submit your Child Care Subsidy claims

Those approved for the 2024 Child Care Subsidy can log into Lifetime Benefit Solutions and start the claim/reimbursement process at any time. You can submit a claim via the Lifetime Benefit Solutions member portal or mobile app or complete a claim form and mail it to Lifetime Benefit Solutions. If you have not previously logged into your Lifetime Benefit Solutions account, review the new user instructions. Find more information on the Family Care web page of the HR website under “How to Claim a Subsidy.”

Add funds to campus accounts at new kiosk

A new kiosk has been installed in Susan B. Anthony Halls, outside the ID office, to allow students and employees to add declining and URoS funds into their campus accounts. Funds can be added using cash or credit cards. The kiosk can also be used to check account balances. Visitor cards can also be purchased at the kiosk for use on campus; visitor cards can only be loaded with URoS funds. Email Brett Carlson or call 585-275-3975 with issues or questions.

LiDA colloquium on how GenAI may support educators

This Center for Learning in the Digital Age (LiDA) colloquium series session will feature K–12 and higher education faculty and staff on how GenAI may support educators in important functions like advising, reporting, planning, and communicating with various constituencies. The virtual session takes place today, March 20, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Register here to attend.

Virtual talk on promoting a healthy gut microbiome

Visit the Center for Community Health & Prevention’s Facebook page on Thursday, March 21, any time after 11 a.m. as Elizabeth Eisnor, a clinical dietitian at the Center for Community Health & Prevention, presents “Got Health: Diet and Digestion—Promoting a Healthy Gut Microbiome.” This taped presentation will help you learn about gut health, the important role it plays in overall health, and what you can do to promote a healthy gut microbiome. This talk is in observance of National Nutrition Month in March.

Lecture: Is Poland still Catholic?

Paulina Niechciał, a visiting professor at the Skalny Center for Polish and Central European Studies, presents a talk on the broad shifts in Polish religious identity and the underlying causes. The lecture by Niechciał, an associate professor at the Centre for Comparative Studies of Civilizations at Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland, will take place Thursday, March 21, at 7:30 p.m. in Sloan Auditorium, Goergen Hall. Talk on leveraging large language models

‘Calming U’ mindfulness course

Embrace a calmer, more focused mindset and unleash the potential of mindfulness, emotional intelligence, and self-compassion in a four-week “Calming U” course.
