School of Medicine and Dentistry MD program receives full accreditation

The Liaison Committee on Medical Education granted accreditation to the School of Medicine and Dentistry’s medical student education program for the next eight years, affirming the program’s commitment to providing a high-quality education that prepares graduates for lifelong careers in medicine. The program was “compliant” (the highest rating possible) in all 12 standards evaluated.

Bursar’s Office closing early today

The Bursar’s Office will close at 3 p.m. today, March 29, and resume regular business hours on Monday, April 1.

Medallion Program workshop with Provost David Figlio

Provost David Figlio is hosting a Medallion Leadership Program workshop, “Applying Student Leader Skills After College,” on Tuesday, April 2, from 7 to 8 p.m. in Genesee Hall, Room 325. To accomplish your organizational or personal goals while on campus, you’ll have to learn how to navigate institutional policies and processes, expand communication and set expectations, effectively contribute to a team dynamic, maximize time management, and ensure responsibility. Student leaders learn valuable skills while gaining authentic leadership experiences.

LGBTQ Leadership Lecture and dinner committee applications open

The Paul J. Burgett Intercultural Center is seeking a small committee of undergraduate students to select the next LGBTQ Leadership Lecture speakers, choose the caterer, plan and implement strategies for a successful event, and promote attendance. As a committee member, you will get a special stole to wear at graduation, a group VIP experience with the speaker, and skills to list on your resume. Learn more and apply here by April 14.

Rainbow Graduation 2024

LGBTQ students graduating from any University school in the Class of 2024 are invited to attend a graduation ceremony hosted by the Paul J. Burgett Intercultural Center. Enjoy cupcakes and hors d’oeuvres, and receive your rainbow cord for commencement and a certificate recognizing you as a rainbow graduate. John Blackshear, vice president for student life, is the keynote speaker. The event takes place May 15 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the May Room, Wilson Commons. Students register here by May 1. LGBTQ faculty and staff are also invited to attend and can register here.

Receive your Simon admission decision before you graduate

Simon Business School is offering a special opportunity to University graduating seniors. If you apply to one of Simon’s MS programs (accountancy, business analytics, finance, marketing analytics, or the part-time Online MS in Business Analytics & Applied AI) by 11:59 p.m. on May 1, you will receive your admission decision before you walk at Commencement on May 17. Additional benefits include an application fee waiver (a $90 value), the option to apply without a GMAT/GRE score, and a guaranteed $10,000 scholarship if admitted. If you have questions, set up a time for a brief chat with an admissions team member.

‘STEM in Drag’ performance and Q&A with Nicki Mirage

Out in STEM will host Nicki Mirage on Saturday, March 30, for its “STEM in Drag” spring speaker series. Mirage will discuss her journey through the intersections of STEM, drag, and the community, and give a drag performance. The event is from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Hawkins-Carlson Room, Rush Rhees Library, and is free to all Rochester faculty, staff, and students. Rochester community members are also welcome to join for $10. The event is made possible by the Paul J. Burgett Intercultural Center’s One Community Grant.

One Community Program seeks undergraduate panelists

The Paul J. Burgett Intercultural Center is seeking undergraduate panelists for this year’s One Community Program held during Welcome Week for incoming first-year and transfer students. Any member of the University community can nominate an outstanding undergraduate student here by Monday, April 1.

Students: If you have a great story to share about how you self-identify, the intersections of your identity, or how your various identities have impacted your college experience, apply here by April 15. Email bic@rochester.edu with questions.

Wheelchair basketball exhibition match and fundraiser

University Athletics’ Varsity Student Athlete Advisory Committee is hosting a wheelchair basketball exhibition match and fundraiser in collaboration with Rochester Wheels on Wednesday, April 10, at 7 p.m. in the Palestra, Goergen Athletic Center. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase to support the organization. Halftime entertainment will be provided by the YellowJackets a cappella group.

Wilmot to host Warrior Weekend launch party April 17

This year’s Wilmot Warrior Weekend takes place September 21 and 22 and features a one-mile walk, a 5K, four cycling routes, and many volunteer opportunities. Wilmot Cancer Institute will host a launch party on Wednesday, April 17, from 5:45 to 7 p.m. in Saunders Research Building. All are invited to this free event to learn about this year’s Warrior Weekend—including the new event location—and enjoy food and branded swag. Registration will officially open at the launch, and attendees can register on the spot. For more information or to register, email WarriorWeekend@rochester.edu.

West African drum and dance workshop

Soulaymane Solo Sana, Rujeko Dumbutshena, and Atiba Rorie are visiting the University to put on a combined West African drum and dance workshop April 19–21, hosted by the Arthur Satz Department of Music. The workshop takes place in the Spurrier Hall dance studio and is free and open to the public.

‘Housing, Health, and Environmental Justice’ research workshop

Join the Institute for Human Health and the Environment for a research workshop on “Housing, Health, and Environmental Justice in the Rochester Region” to learn how home-based environmental exposures affect health equity. The full-day workshop begins at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, at the School of Nursing’s Helen Wood Hall. Registration has been extended to April 3.

‘Art After Dark’ annual gala at MAG

The Memorial Art Gallery’s annual gala, “An Artists’ Affair: Art After Dark,” takes place Saturday, May 11, from 7 to 11 p.m. Individual tickets are $125; University faculty and staff can use discount code GALA$25OFF until April 11 to receive $25 off the ticket price.
