Look left, right, and left again for traffic before stepping off the curb.
Be alert and aware when you are crossing the street. Do not be distracted by cell phones or other devices.
Tips for drivers
Remember, you can encounter pedestrians anytime and anywhere, even outside of crosswalks
Come to a complete stop if pedestrians are crossing or preparing to cross. Wait until pedestrians have crossed at least one lane past the lane you are in before resuming travel.
Do not overtake other vehicles stopped for pedestrians.

The University Counseling Center has partnered with TELUS to provide free counseling sessions and crisis support for all Rochester students, wherever they are. The TELUS Student Support app provides on-demand therapy support in five languages—English, Spanish, French, Mandarin, and Cantonese—and scheduled therapy sessions in over 150 languages. Rochester students home on break or studying in other countries can access TELUS by downloading the app and clicking “Get Support.”

Celebrate the entries and meet the winners of this year’s Art of Science Competition at a reception starting at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, on the second floor of Carlson Library. Refreshments will be provided.

The next event in the School of Nursing’s “Conversation with the Dean” series takes place on Tuesday, May 7, in honor of National Nurses Week. This virtual panel discussion will share tips to preserve personal wellness and prevent burnout in nursing. You’ll also explore how the School of Nursing amplifies these principles across the larger Rochester community to ensure everyone can experience health harmony. Register today.
Tickets on sale for Friends of Strong BBQ lunch fundraiser
Support patient- and family-centered care on Friday, May 10, from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. in Sarah Flaum Atrium for the Friends of Strong annual BBQ Lunch fundraiser. Tickets are $15. Individual tickets are available for purchase in the gift shop. 312 requisitions must be brought to the Friends of Strong office by the end of the day on May 7. There will be a limited number of tickets available at the door. Meals include chicken, pulled pork, sausage, baked beans, macaroni salad, cornbread, and optional water. There will also be veggie burgers available.
A new University research study seeks dementia caregivers to participate in a brief, individualized, virtual program to help improve social connectedness and reduce stress. You may be eligible if you are age 50 or older and are caring for a family member who has dementia. Subjects receive up to $100 for participation. The Students’ Association gives out Professor of the Year Awards each year to instructors in the School of Arts & Sciences and the Hajim School of Engineering. Recipients are nominated by their students for going above and beyond inside and outside of the classroom. This year’s winners are:
Engineering: Ross Maddox, a visiting associate professor of biomedical engineering
Natural Sciences: Alexis Stein, an assistant professor of instruction in the Department of Biology
Social Sciences: Edward Fiandach, an adjunct assistant professor of political science
Humanities: Guillaume Chastel, a senior lecturer in the American Sign Language Program
The Students’ Association also presents its annual Stars in Service Award to a service worker who goes above and beyond for students. This year’s winner is Gary Heiler from University Facilities and Services.
Congratulations to the University’s golf team on winning the Liberty League Championship on Sunday for the first time since 2017 and earning an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament in May. Read more here.
