Record number of entries for annual Art of Science competition
A record 84 Rochester faculty, students, and staff submitted entries to the annual Art of Science competition to explore and illuminate the aesthetic beauty that results when science, art, and technology intersect. The winning entries were announced earlier this week during a ceremony in the Carlson Library, where they will be permanently displayed. The image above shows detail from Iridescent Eclipse by Benjamin Margulies ’24, who was awarded third place.

Research talk on evaluating AI capabilities as affordances
Join the Goergen Institute for Data Science and the Department of Philosophy for “Evaluating AI Capabilities as Affordances: Implications for Decision Support and Redteaming”with Sina Fazelpour, an assistant professor of philosophy and of computer science at Northeastern University. This research talk will be held today, May 3, from 3 to 5 p.m. in Dewey Hall, Room 2110-D.
DPS donation drive to benefit the Center for Youth
Five-time Emmy Award-winner and Eastman School of Music alumnus Jeff Beal ’85E returns to Eastman on Monday, May 6, to present a solo piano concert. Join him in Hatch Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. as he performs New York Études, 10 new works for solo piano. This event is free and open to the public.
‘Badgering Architecture’ interdisciplinary symposium on cohabitation with other species
“Badgering Architecture” is a day-long, interdisciplinary symposium of experts in architecture, landscape architecture, history, and anthropology to discuss how multispecies design is transforming cultural ideas about space and species. Film series focuses on social stigma of mental illness and behavioral disorders
The Department of Psychiatry and the Department of Health, Humanities, and Bioethics will again present the Reel Mind film series, an annual series of films, performances, and discussions addressing the social stigma of mental illness and behavioral disorders. The series runs May 14–28 at the Little Theatre and will focus on the theme “Women’s Mental Health Narratives: Strength in Struggle.” A panel discussion will follow each screening. Registration open for Wilmot Warrior Weekend
This year’s Wilmot Warrior Weekend is Saturday, September 21, and Sunday, September 22, at the Xerox campus in Webster. It will include a one-mile walk, a 5K walk/run, and a bike ride with four distance options.
