TODAY'S UPDATES

NATO at 75—powerful and necessary, or costly and obsolete?

“NATO is not just the strongest military alliance in world history, it’s also an effective international organization that materially increases its members’ joint military capabilities and political influence,” says Randall Stone, a political science professor and the director of the Skalny Center for Polish and Central European Studies. FOR THE COMMUNITY

Aging Research Day

Sponsored by the University Committee on Interdisciplinary Studies and the University’s Aging Institute, Aging Research Day will be held today, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Goergen Hall, Room 101. The event features a variety of talks on aging research from Medical Center and River Campus faculty. The day will culminate with a keynote delivered by Luigi Ferrucci, a geriatrician and epidemiologist at the National Institute of Aging.

Summer yoga classes

Join the Mindful University Project for twice-weekly yoga classes this summer on Mondays and Thursdays at 6 p.m. starting May 20 in the Leibner-Cooper Room, Goergen Athletic Center. Classes are free for full-time students and R-Club members. Faculty, staff, and part-time students can join by signing up as an R-Club member for $22 each month. Check the calendar and register for classes.

Health equity art going on display

Join the Center for Community Health & Prevention and the Office of Health Equity Research (OHER) for the unveiling of the health equity art display at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, in the Saunders Research Building atrium. In 2022, the OHER hosted an art contest for local K–12 students to express what health equity meant to them, and why it’s important. The Medical Center is amplifying this work through this display. Celebrate with light refreshments and conversation. RSVP by May 22 to OHER@URMC.Rochester.edu.

Apply for the Advanced Certificate in Clinical Ethics

The Department of Health Humanities and Bioethics shares that applications are being accepted for the Advanced Certificate in Clinical Ethics. The multidisciplinary graduate credential prepares students to identify, analyze, and discuss the ethical considerations and conflicts that arise in health care decision-making. It is open to all graduate students, faculty, and staff at the Medical Center and its affiliated institutions. For more information, email erin_lee@urmc.rochester.edu.
