Rochester Red Wings join UR Medicine, American Heart Association to expand CPR readiness

In collaboration with UR Medicine and the American Heart Association, the Rochester Red Wings are introducing the HeartSaver Hub Mobile Kiosk at Innovative Field from May 28 through June 2, and June 11 through June 16. This initiative represents a major step forward in promoting heart health and empowering the Rochester community with life-saving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills.

Kevin Garewal to step down as dean of University libraries

Kevin Garewal, vice provost and the Andrew H. & Janet Dayton Dean of the University of Rochester Libraries, has announced that he will step down from his roles effective July 31. Garewal is returning to his alma mater, Cleveland State University–College of Law, where he will serve as assistant professor and director of the law library. Maurini Strub, assistant dean of strategy and planning for River Campus Libraries, will serve as interim dean while the University conducts a national search to find Garewal’s successor.

Board welcomes three trustees, recognizes four trustees emeriti

Douglas Bennett ’06S (MBA), cofounder of Phalanx Impact Partners; Ria Dimalanta Nova ’98, partner, client and product solutions, at Apollo Global Management; and Steve Piaker ’84, cofounder and managing partner of Ten Coves Capital, were elected to the University’s Board of Trustees at the May meeting. John Bruning, Tom Richards, Danny Wegman, and Mary-Frances Winters ’73, ’82S (MBA) were recognized as trustees emeriti.

Learn about Rochester’s community partnerships

At the foundation of Boundless Possibility, the University’s 2030 strategic plan, there is a commitment to contributing to the city of Rochester through economic, educational, social, and cultural partnerships. Shaun Nelms, the vice president for community partnerships, will talk about those partnerships at a University community forum on Tuesday, June 4, at noon via Zoom. Nelms will explain how his role connects to the strategic plan, and then, get into the importance of the University’s community partnerships and examples of where and how they have been successful. Additionally, there will be a brief overview of the strategic plan and opportunities to ask questions. Register to attend.

Spring tuition reimbursement reminder

To ensure timely tuition reimbursement, proof of tuition cost, proof of payment, and proof of successful course completion need to be received by the Office of Total Rewards no later than 90 days after course completion. For more information, review tuition benefits on the HR website.

Mental health services through your University health care plan and Well-U

The University’s health care plans can provide you with coverage and support for stress, anxiety, and depression through Behavioral Health Partners. The PPO plan ensures 100 percent coverage without a deductible, while the HSA plan covers 100 percent after you have met your deductible. Have any questions? Looking for health care providers?

The Office of Human Resources shares that Excellus offers an intuitive doctor search tool designed to assist individuals in locating covered providers within their vicinity. With this tool, you can specify your plan and location to identify a covered provider nearby. It also facilitates the search for providers within either the AHP or Tier 1 network, as well as the Excellus National Network or Tier 2.


FOR THE COMMUNITY

Strong Interfaith Chapel unavailable June 3–7

The Interfaith Chapel at Strong Memorial Hospital will be temporarily unavailable June 3–7 while the outdated audiovisual equipment in the chapel is upgraded. This upgrade will allow music, occasional services, and other appropriate media to be broadcast to patients’ rooms. The chaplains’ conference room will be available from 1 to 5 p.m. for Muslim staff who regularly use the chapel for prayer and Jum’ah prayer, which occurs on Fridays.
