H5N1 bird flu safety concerns and how it spreads to humans

A growing number of infections of the H5N1 virus—also known as avian or bird flu—have been found in dairy cattle and farm workers. David Topham, the Marie Curran Wilson and Joseph Chamberlain Wilson Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology and director of the Translational Immunology and Infectious Disease Institute, offers information on the virus and safety concerns.

Electronic parking services briefly unavailable on June 26

On Wednesday, June 26, starting at 9 p.m., the Transportation and Parking Department’s online services will be unavailable for approximately two hours due to a scheduled system upgrade. My Parking Online services and mobile applications will be offline until the upgrade is complete. Call (585) 275-4524 with questions.

Eastman Community Music School Commencement awards and honors

On Saturday, June 15, Eastman Community Music School held its 89th Commencement and awards ceremony. A series of awards and academic scholarships were given to outstanding and dedicated faculty and students. Isaac Brown, Sophia Chuang, Renata Corrado-Green, Joanna Frank, Meredith Hart, Rebecca Lee, Justine Li-Wu, Meredith Mazur, Tekla Mazur, Charles Rogers, Shreya Sanjay, William Spear, Corban Vogler, Jayden Vogler, Alina Ying, and Maureen Zhang—graduating seniors in the Diploma Program—were also honored.

The University is partnering with the annual CGI Rochester International Jazz Festival, which kicked off last week and runs through June 29. The internationally renowned festival features numerous musicians from the Eastman School of Music community including current students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
