New Registration Process: The UR Student Information System Launches

Students at the University will register for fall 2020 classes this spring using a new student information system. Called UR Student, the system is part of an initiative to update and streamline Rochester’s student records, financial payment processes, and registration systems, while also providing secure access.

On Monday, March 2, you will receive an email from UR Student inviting you to go to the UR Student site (a link will be provided) and set up your individual account. You will need your NetID to log in, which is the same ID you use to log in to Blackboard. If you are off campus or not connected to the University’s secure network, you will need to use Duo, the University’s two-factor authentication system, to verify your identity and access the UR Student site (see Enroll in Duo below). Please note that Blackboard will continue to be your learning management system.

Once you are logged in to UR Student, you must complete a set of actions before you can register for fall 2020 courses. Known as “onboarding” in UR Student, these actions include confirming your contact information, signing forms, and verifying other key information. Once you have completed these tasks, you will be able to register for fall courses starting in early April.

Below are key dates and details for those enrolled in Arts, Sciences & Engineering and the Eastman School of Music.

Key dates in UR Student

  • Onboarding: Begins March 2
  • Advising Week: March 16–April 3
  • Registration: Rising seniors, April 7; rising juniors, April 8; rising sophomores, April 9. Open registration begins April 10.

Please note that registration begins on a Tuesday this year.

Enroll in Duo

If you’re not connected to the University’s secure network—for example, if you are trying to log in to UR Student while off campus—you need to use the University’s two-factor authentication program, called Duo, to verify your identity and access the UR Student site. Duo authentication occurs after you log in to UR Student with your NetID and password using a mobile device. For information and to enroll in NetID Duo, visit the University’s Duo web page.

What’s new about UR Student (for fall 2020)?

  • Register anytime from anywhere using your laptop or tablet
  • Receive system notifications to remind you of registration events and to complete onboarding documents
  • View final grades
  • Access integrated online bill pay and account status; set up parents, or another third party, for bill pay support (coming in July 2020)

 What will remain the same?

  • Course evaluations will continue in the system your school uses.
  • Blackboard will continue to be the central location for online classes, discussions, and course materials for schools that currently use it.

Help Assistant in UR Student

Once you are logged into UR Student, you can find additional assistance with registration and other tasks via a virtual help assistant. Like a GPS system that gives you driving directions, the virtual assistant will guide you step-by-step through certain tasks within UR Student. In order to access the assistant, you must first download a web browser extension called WalkMe, which works in Chrome, Safari, and other modern web browsers. Then, click on the Need Help? button in the upper-right corner of UR Student to activate.

Download WalkMe here.
