Registration Opens Tomorrow for Spring, Winter Sessions

Spring registration begins tomorrow, Monday, December 7, for undergraduate students in Arts, Sciences & Engineering based on your class year. Remember, your first day to register is not your only day. Use this quick reference guide to learn how to prepare your course schedule prior to registration.

Registration also begins tomorrow in UR Student for Winter Session courses—running January 11–29. All Winter Session courses will be held entirely online, so you can earn up to three credits in just three weeks, no matter where you are. If you’re interested, talk to your advisor as soon as possible about your Winter Session options. These courses have an enrollment minimum, so you are encouraged to register before Monday, December 21, to allow the registrar adequate time to notify you of any course cancellations and help you enroll in other Winter Session courses.

Respond with Spring Plans by December 9

All students—undergraduate and graduate—in Arts, Sciences & Engineering and at the Eastman School, are asked to complete a very important web form as soon as possible. The form asks you to confirm your enrollment status for the spring 2021 semester and provide your addresses for the spring 2021 semester. Information collected in this form will be instrumental in helping the University plan for the next several months and will be used for billing and financial aid. Billing for spring 2021 for undergraduate students will be processed on December 14; graduate students will be billed in the first week of January. Please fill out the form with your spring plans by Wednesday, December 9, and work with Residential Life, if appropriate, to ensure your spring term bill is accurate.

Students may update their information in the form—but to ensure your spring bill is accurate, you should respond no later than December 9. The deadline for final submissions is January 10 for spring 2021 plans.

Update on Student Testing

University Health Service (UHS) is continuing to administer pre-departure tests to asymptomatic students who remain on campus, but who plan to depart for home in the coming weeks. This pre-departure test will continue to be a requirement for all undergraduate on-campus students and recommended for all others. Appointments are required and can be made on the UHS website.

Students who are staying on campus for Winter Stay do not need to be tested; however, they can be tested for free upon request, even when asymptomatic. These students who are staying for Winter Break will also be a part of UHS’s surveillance testing, which will continue through December 18. From December 19–January 3, testing will be available at UHS for students with symptoms, for students who will be traveling, and for students who are returning to Rochester. During this time, students should call UHS at (585) 275-2662 to schedule an appointment. Information about testing for students returning to campus for the spring semester will be communicated in early January.

S/F Policy Update

In recognition of the continuing challenges posed by COVID-19, the College is modifying the S/F policy for the fall 2020 and spring 2021 semesters. The changes include:

  • Temporarily increasing the number of S/F grades allowed to two courses in a semester.
  • Extending the deadline to request S/F grades until the fourth week of the following semester. Note that this change extended the deadline from previous communications.
  • Allowing students to use one S grade to satisfy part of their cluster requirements if the course was taken in fall 2020 or spring 2021.

More details on these policy changes can be found online.

Spring 2021 Study Break Days Announced

Spring semester study break days will be held on Wednesday, March 3, and Tuesday, March 30. Arts, Sciences & Engineering and the Eastman School of Music will not hold classes—graduate and undergraduate—on these days. All classes taught at the School of Medicine and Dentistry and undergraduate classes at Simon Business School will also be canceled on those days.
