Update Coming This Week to University WiFi Connections

On Tuesday, December 15, University IT is making an update to the certificate for its wireless networks that will require you to take an action if you use the University’s WiFi. If you use the UR_Connected or UR_Connected5 networks, you should expect a prompt on your wireless device any time after 5:30 a.m. EST asking you to verify the certificate for auth.net.rochester.edu. Once you accept this new certificate, you will be connected to the wireless network. If you cancel the popup, you will need to reconnect and accept the certificate. Contact the University IT Help Desk at UnivITHelp@rochester.edu or (585) 275-2000 if you need assistance.

Winter Stay Group and Newsletter

Students remaining on campus for the winter can find support and connect through the UR Winter Survivors Facebook group. A newsletter with updates, resources, and events will be sent via email on Sundays starting December 20. Students staying on campus for the long stay will automatically receive this publication, but anyone can subscribe. For updates and more information, visit the Winter Session website.

Five Simple Steps Can Protect You from Being Phished

University IT thanks you for your understanding during this recent security enhancement to your email environment. More than 44,000 emails have been filtered, flagged, and blocked since additional security was added to student email on December 1, but it’s still important to stay vigilant. Malicious phishing messages may still slip through. You can learn to spot them with these five simple steps on University IT’s Information Security website. Should you receive any suspicious emails, report them immediately to abuse@rochester.edu. Contact the University IT Help Desk at UnivITHelp@rochester.edu or (585) 275-2000 with questions or concerns.
