Updates to parking fees and vacation accruals aim to help employees

As part of the financial recovery process, the University continues to review policies and procedures to ensure the impact of work interruptions on faculty and staff are minimized to the greatest extent possible. “We are committed to helping all of our faculty, staff and their families adjust to the many changes that have come with this pandemic,” said Holly Crawford, senior vice president and CFO. “We understand vacation and parking fees are top of mind for many and have made a number of decisions to accommodate those concerns.”

Employee parking

Rates will remain flat during the next fiscal year (FY 21) for all faculty and staff. Parking registration for FY21 will be suspended and all active permits in FY20 will remain active in FY21.

Fees for fully furloughed employees have been suspended until they return to work, and for those individuals partially furloughed, the University will waive one month’s worth of parking fees. Employees who normally pay for their permits by payroll deduction will see adjustments made in their paychecks during June or July. Those who do not use a deduction should call the Department of Transportation and Parking Management (DTPM) at (585) 275-4524. A FAQ is available on the DTPM website if you have additional questions.

Vacation accrual

In light of work disruptions caused by the crisis, the University wants to ensure that faculty and staff maintain access to earned vacation time so that it is available when they are able to use it. The following changes have been made to the accrual policy:

  • At the beginning of the first full pay period on January 1, 2021, a maximum of one and a half year’s (1.5 year’s) accrual may be carried forward. During the year, vacation accruals will continue.
  • At the beginning of the first full pay period on January 1, 2022, a maximum of one and a quarter year’s (1.25 year’s) accrual may be carried forward.  During the year, vacation accruals will continue.
  • At the beginning of the first full pay period on January 1, 2023, the University will return to the standing policy which allows for a maximum of one year’s accrual to be carried forward.

Please note that all employees continue to have access to the University’s HRMS system. To access the system when not on site, faculty and staff must use remote access tools (DUO and VPN). Visit the University’s online resource for tutorials to learn more about these tools.
