The URDU Has Big Novice and JV Success in New Jersey

February 6, 2015

The URDU has shown, once again, that we have some of the most talented novice and JV policy debaters around. First off, novices Miriam Kohn and Nick Heitsch finished the tournament as Quarterfinalists, having entered elimination rounds as the fourth seed at the tournament.

We also had individual successes: Nick was ranked 2nd speaker out of 48 debaters, and Miriam was ranked 4th! Ben Frazer, debating with a student from Rutgers University in the junior varsity division, finished as Octafinalists, losing his debate by a very close 2-1 decision.

All in all it was a great trip to the Jersey Shore for the URDU. Though cold and wintry, the team found was able to spend some good down-time together at a local diner after the tournament was over.

With several tournaments left before the season ends, these debaters are already thinking about their next competition. On to Ithaca College we go!
