Novice Success in Connecticut!

February 27, 2015

Last weekend in Danbury, CT the URDU attended the Northeast Regional Championship at Western Connecticut State University. We debated the best the northeast has to offer and came away with victory in the novice divisions of both Policy and BP.

Western Conn Team Motion

The team waits for the Round One motion to get announced on Saturday morning.

For the fourth time this year Ben Frazer and Graeme McGuire finished as finalist in Novice, after one of their most successful pre-elimination performances yet. They actually came close to the points needed to clear into varsity elimination rounds, a great accomplishment for these first year college debaters.

Western Conn Ben and Graeme

Ben and Graeme prepare for their final round against Cornell and Vermont.

In Policy Nick Heitsch – debating with a swing partner from Western Connecticut State – finished as an octafinalist in novice. He even won the round in which he had to debate alone because his partner was sick. Nick is now looking ahead to the Novice National debate tournament at Binghamton University the weekend after next!
