UR Debate Union Kicks Off 2015-16 Season With Success At Bard

September 22, 2015

At the Bard College Invitational this past weekend the URDU had big success. Having made great strides last year, some of our returning debaters won speaker awards and debated in the elimination rounds, with one team finishing in the semi-finals.

Most notably, we brought one of the largest groups of new debaters to this season opener in recent memory!

Team Syed Reefat Aziz and Ben Frazer finished this opener as semi-finalists after entering elimination rounds as the top seed, with Aziz taking home the award for 3rd best speaker and Frazer taking 6th place. The team of Lindsay Wrobel and Katelyn Offerdahl finished as quarterfinalists after entering elims as the 11th seed. We congratulate them on their amazing success this weekend – and we look forward to more successes to come!

This past weekend we are also proud to say that we brought some 20 brand new debaters to the Bard College Invitational, where they got their first taste of college debate. These novice debaters fought hard and are ready to come back for more at the very next opportunity. We congratulate them on completing their first tournament!
