Big Wins For UR Novice and JV Debaters At Rutgers-Newark

September 28, 2015

The URDU had a highly successful trip to Newark, New Jersey this past weekend, winning in both the Novice and Junior Varsity divisions, and with debaters taking home individual speaking as well as team awards.

Perhaps the highlight of the weekend was Matthew Lyskawa’s ranking as top novice speaker out of 56 competitors at his first policy debate tournament ever. His partner Margeaux Kelly was ranked as 5th best speaker, and the two finished as octo-finalists.  This is an incredibly promising start for these novices!

In JV Cedric Bonsol debated at his first ever college policy tournament with Rutgers-Newark debater Andres Monclut, and the pair powered through to finish as quarterfinalists. Cedric was also ranked 7th speaker in his division, a great start to his college career.

The URDU looks forward to our next policy tournament at the West Point Military Academy later in October, and our next worlds tournament at Yale University this coming weekend. Stay tuned friends!
