Novice Debaters Finish Near Top of NYC Tournament
February 8, 2016
The URDU returned from New York City, where we debated at the Gotham Scrimmage at the New School, with awards in hand. The tournament was a novice-oriented event, which was perfect for some of our novice debaters who just joined this semester to get some first time experience with the topic.
R-to-L: Salva Ken, Abhishek Dedhe, Andres Ollarvez, Gazi Mahir Ahmed Naven, Tobi Abubakare, Azmeena Sayeed, Elizabeth De Los Reyes, Dan Gomez, Emoni Tedder, and Bethany Gardner.
In the end it was a more experienced novice, Bethany Gardner, who took home the 6th speaker award. Andres Ollarvez, new to policy debate, took home 7th.
L-R: Bethany Gardner with her 6th speaker trophy; Andres Ollarvez with his 7th speaker trophy
We are proud of our new debaters and their great accomplishments. We continue on the path toward some of the more competitive policy tournaments later this semester.
