For a second year in a row URDU debaters have broken into elimination rounds at the most competitive tournament in the United States – the US Universities Debating Championship (USUDC). Additionally, everyone had seven great debates and learned a lot at this competition.

This past weekend the URDU traveled to Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania to debate at the Northeast Regional Championship tournament in the worlds format.

In mid-February we brought a big crew and many URDU debaters had very strong performances, competing in two formats and FIVE different divisions of debate – Novice and Varsity Policy, and Novice, Varsity, and Spanish-speaking Worlds!

The URDU returned from New York City, where we debated at the Gotham Scrimmage at the New School, with awards in hand. The tournament was a novice-oriented event, which was perfect for some of our novice debaters who just joined this semester to get some first time experience with the topic.

This past weekend the Worlds crew debated at the Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY and the Policy crew traveled to the US Military Academy in West Point, NY. Both groups had some big successes along with all of that great fall foliage in Central New York and the Hudson Valley!

The University of Rochester Debate Union attended the 2015 Yale IV this past weekend. Although no teams advanced to elimination rounds at this exceedingly difficult tournament, all teams received at least one 1st or 2nd place ranking during their 6 preliminary debates, and most achieved that multiple times.

The URDU had a highly successful trip to Newark, New Jersey this past weekend, winning in both the Novice and Junior Varsity divisions, and with debaters taking home individual speaking as well as team awards.

At the Bard College Invitational this past weekend the URDU had big success. Having made great strides last year, some of our returning debaters won speaker awards and debated in the elimination rounds, with one team finishing in the semi-finals.
