UR Debate Kicks Off Season With Two Big Events

September 12, 2016

We’ve started off the year strong with lots of practice and tons of new debaters ready to try out this great activity. Now we’re preparing for two big events this and next week:

2016 Planning and Prep

First, this Monday we’re hosting students from Rwanda who we are going to be competing against in a public debate on the proposition: This house believes, in the aftermath of genocide, forgiveness is more important than justice. We were delighted to discover that we already have a few alums from this program on our squad, and they’ll be in attendance Monday as well. The event will take place this Monday, September 12th, at 7:30pm, in Bausch and Lomb 109. Light refreshments served!

Second, later that week we’re hosting our own debate tournament. Schools from all over will gather here at UR to compete in both the Worlds and Policy debate formats. We expect to host around 300 people this year – one of the largest Brad Smith Debate Tournaments ever! Come on by anytime, all debates open to the public. Final rounds will be in Hubbell and Lander auditoriums in Hutchison Hall, Sunday September 18th, at 7pm.

For more information on either of these events, or to get in touch with us, email Brady at brady.fletcher@rochester.edu, or go to our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/rochesterdebate/.
