Debate Union Marches To Victories

The URDU kicked off the month of March by celebrating National Speech Education Day, where we gave out decorated bottle caps for a suggested donation to Leaping Boundaries, and organization our team is working with this year that works with high school debaters in Bangladesh. URDU Heats Up In February

We have lots to report from a busy February! This past month saw URDU debaters winning top speaker awards, debating in elimination rounds, and generally having big successes in all experience levels of both of our formats of debate. For three weekends in a row, from Ithaca, NY to Washington, D.C. we had some amazing debates and brought home some trophies too!

Busy Winter Break For UR Debate Union

January 23, 2017

This winter the debate union traveled thousands of miles to compete at THREE debate tournaments! Two teams traveled to Los Angeles, California to compete at USC and CSU-Fullerton, and another team and student judge traveled to the World Universities Debating Championship in The Hague, Netherlands. We learned a lot and had a lot of fun at each.

Victory For URDU In The Green Mountains

Over this past weekend the URDU won big at the Huber Debates hosted by the Lawrence Debate Union at the University of Vermont, one of only three tournaments that hosts competitions in both of our formats all year. In a field of over eighty teams in worlds and twenty teams in policy we had huge success in both formats, proving we are a versatile, skilled squad!

URDU Has JV Champions At Rutgers

October 3, 2016

This past weekend the debate union took one team to compete in each division of the Rutgers-Newark debate tournament. Novices Melissa Kagaju and Anthony Pericolo learned the new format and got some experience with the new year’s topic, while Open debaters Cedric Bonsol and Tobi Abubakare tested out some new arguments that they hope to develop as the year goes on. The big victory happened in the Junior Varsity division, with Brianna Terrell and Ben Morbeck finishing as tournament champions.
