Board of Trustees Investment Committee Policy on Investments in Companies Operating in Sudan

The President of the United States, as well as the U.S. Senate, House of Representatives and the United Nations, has determined that the government of Sudan’s actions in Darfur constitute genocide. The government of Sudan’s actions against the people of its Darfur region resulted in recent decisions by many colleges and universities to eliminate investments in companies identified as supporting the Sudanese government with significant resources and/or infrastructure used to carry out its genocidal actions.

Therefore, the University of Rochester’s Board of Trustees Investment Committee agreed, on October 5, 2006, to prohibit direct investments in companies identified as supporting the Sudanese government’s activities in Darfur. The University will, as well, communicate to the University’s investments managers its desire that they avoid investments in these companies.

Adopted: October 2006
