George Eastman Circle events return in person

This fall, the George Eastman Circle celebrated the return of in-person events with dinners, receptions, and luncheons across the country.

At Meliora Weekend, members enjoyed a special luncheon with their families as well as a Hospitality Suite featuring entertainment, exclusive tours of campus, and refreshments.

George Eastman Circle members also gathered in Boston with Sarah Peyre, dean of the Warner School of Education, for an evening of thoughtful discussion about the future of higher education. Dean Peyre spoke on how the University of Rochester is poised to play a leading role in preparing the next generation of students and educators to navigate economic pressures, the future of work, a digital revolution, and issues of equity.

Attendees of “The Future of Computer Science,” an event hosted in San Francisco as part of the Huang Speaker Series in Technology and Innovation, heard from Hajim School of Engineering Dean Wendi Heinzelman and Computer Science professors Christopher Kanan and Michael Scott. In their discussion, they reflected on the ways in which the University of Rochester plays a key role in advancing computing technology and in shaping its impact on society.

President and G. Robert Witmer, Jr. University Professor, Sarah C. Mangelsdorf, and David Figlio, Provost and Gordon Fyfe Professor of Economics and Education, joined the celebration of the 15th anniversary of the George Eastman Circle at the Wintergarden in Rochester. After cocktails and a delicious dinner, attendees heard from President Mangelsdorf and Provost Figlio about planning for the University’s future.
