Announcing HRMS (HR Management System) Modernization Project

We are pleased to announce that the University is embarking on a project for the replacement of our current HR management system (HRMS). This project is critical to our work as we modernize University HR systems to support our employees.

Workday HR will replace the University’s current PeopleSoft HR system, which has been in place for more than 23 years and has become outdated. PeopleSoft has been the platform for the online HRMS (Human Resource Management System) tool we all use, which tracks personal and job data, time, payroll, and benefits, as well as recruiting.

The new Workday HR’s technology is best-in-class and is used by many leading healthcare and higher education organizations.

Benefits of Workday HR

Workday HR will have more expansive tools and be more efficient and easier for employees and managers to use for HR-related needs, including:

  • easy access for employees to personnel items (e.g., earnings statements, leave balances) and making updates (e.g., contact information, W-2 withholdings);
  • convenient access for managers and administrators to current information about their teams (e.g., current job descriptions);
  • an integrated career management experience, which includes enhanced visibility into the career paths and job structure enabled by the Career Path Modernization (CPM) Project;
  • improved data management and reporting analytics: Workday HR will be integrated on the same platform where the Workday Student and Workday Financials tools are managed; and
  • a user-friendly, intuitive interface, as well as a mobile app.

Current Activities

This is a large and complex project for our University and we have a lot to accomplish. Executive sponsors from Human Resources, Finance, and Information Technology will oversee the project. Project leaders will work closely with University-wide stakeholders to seek valuable input from faculty, staff, and leaders across the institution. The initiative will officially kick off in April, and a project timeline will be announced at that time. The CPM project will be aligned, and will go live shortly after Workday HR.

To Learn More

As the project progresses, we will post Workday HR project updates and FAQs on the HR website. Along the way, Workday HR demo sessions will be available so you can see the tool and get an initial view into the user experience.

Stay tuned for more information about this important project, and thank you for your continued support as we work to modernize our HR systems, tools, and processes. We believe that in doing so we will create substantial, positive change for the University of Rochester and all of our employees.
