HR Modernization: New CPM Job and Pay Structures Launch January 31

The University is nearing completion of a key milestone in its HR Modernization effort and the completion of the multi-year Career Path Modernization (CPM) project to transform how the University hires, pays, develops, and advances its workforce. Beginning January 31, the University will launch a clear, easy-to-understand job and pay structure that aligns jobs, levels, and positions across the institution to deliver consistency, equity, and transparency to a wide variety of opportunities, roles, and career paths. Managers will begin meeting with staff in mid-January to share individual job information. Staff will have access to their new job information in HRMS including the new job catalog on January 31.

To prepare for these changes, training on the new job and pay structures is available in MyPath by searching for the playlist “CPMPlaylist”. To learn more, visit the updated resources available on the CPM website.

Performance Evaluation Schedule

The University’s annual performance evaluation process provides an opportunity for both managers and staff to receive feedback and evaluate progress over the last year, as well as set goals, plan projects, and establish timelines for the year ahead. The performance evaluation cycle for the rest of the University staff will launch on Monday, February 12, 2024. All manager reviews must be completed by Friday, April 19 in MyPath. Manager’s Tip

Resources and Support for Performance Evaluations

As performance evaluations get underway, the Office of Human Resources has courses available in MyPath to offer support. The Performance Evaluation mini-series includes:

  • Performance Management: Performance Review Overview 2024 (online module)
  • Conducting the Performance Review (online module)
  • Creating Accountability and Setting Expectations
  • Giving Effective Feedback
  • Creating and Managing Performance Goals

Independent Contractor versus Employee

Federal and state governments have established stringent criteria to determine whether an individual may be considered an Independent Contractor. In most instances, an individual performing services for the University will be classified as an employee, as will current and former employees, or those that perform the same or substantially similar duties as employees. More information is located in University Policy 122: Worker Classification: Employee vs. Independent Contractor and on the Corporate Purchasing website. Please contact your HR Business Partner if there are any questions.

Learning and Development

Annual Mandatory In-Service Program

The Annual Mandatory In-Service (AMI) is ready to launch for URMC incumbent staff at the end of January with a due date of Sunday, June 30. Improvements for the 2024 AMI program include an enhanced learner experience. A new scrolling format will allow learners to move through the training modules in a more efficient manner. In addition, the classification of clinical content has been refined to ensure that each role receives the topics necessary for successful job performance. The clinical questionnaire will determine the appropriate content based on role and 13 topics moved to the clinical section, reducing the number of required modules for certain roles. New topics for 2024 include Personally Owned or Enabled Computing Devices, Narcan, and Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs (for Clinical Employees).
