Pay Range Transparency and Pay Administration Guidelines are Now Available

The Career Path Modernization (CPM) project, which will be rolled out in full in January of 2024, will enable the University of Rochester to provide a fully transparent job and pay range structure for staff in support of transparency and career planning. New York State has recently implemented a wage transparency law, which has moved up the publishing of our pay ranges in advance of the completion of the CPM project. The University has begun improving pay transparency in three important ways that are now accessible for our employees:

  • the pay range for each staff member’s current job is visible to them in HRMS: a large majority of these ranges have been updated through the CPM project. Some are still going through review and may be updated in January when the project is complete.
  • pay ranges are now included on all new job postings
  • new Pay Administration Guidelines, which outline the University’s compensation practices, are now available on the HR website.

Manager’s Tip

HR Modernization: Benefits of Attending myURHR Demo Days

Experience live-guided tours of myURHR by attending Demo Days (September – November) and encourage your team(s) to get a sneak peek too. Demo Days, which are not training, will provide a more detailed view of how Human Resources processes and actions have been designed in the University’s new HR information system replacing HRMS in 2024. Sessions will also highlight some key impacts, new terminology, and benefits that are important to managers. All faculty and staff are invited. Watch a brief Fast Facts preview video of what to expect.

Just as the University’s workforce is diverse, employees react to change in diverse ways. Remember the three actions for managers: Advocate (ensure faculty and staff have the time to attend events such as myURHR Demo Days and later myURHR training in 2024); Prepare (listen and understand any resistance), and Support (reinforce key impacts and actions).

Learning and Development

Annual Training on Harassment and Discrimination Now Available in MyPath

In pursuit of our Meliora values and in compliance with state and federal law, the University of Rochester requires all faculty and staff to complete an annual training on how to identify and react to workplace harassment and discrimination. To fulfill this year’s requirement, we will utilize the Sexual Harassment Prevention training provided by New York State. Training is now assigned in MyPath, and must be completed by Wednesday, November 15. For more information and frequently asked questions about the training, as well as additional opportunities for online and in-person training, visit the Office of Equity and Inclusion online.

IT Security Training

University IT has bolstered security policies due to the increased risk of cyberattacks with the primary objective of protecting institutional data while limiting risk and reducing costs. A one-time required training, “Information Security Policy Updates”, has been assigned to all faculty, staff, contractors, and student employees in MyPath. The training takes about 20 minutes to complete and is due on Friday, December 15. The training covers expectations, best practices, and responsibilities to secure personal and institutional information, prevent institutional data breaches, and ensure consistency throughout all parts of the University. To review these new policies, visit the IT website. The training helps individuals understand different levels of vulnerability and how to mitigate these threats:

  • High Risk: Social Security numbers, financial and bank information, personal health records, and other legally restricted and/or confidential information
  • Moderate Risk: budgets, organization charts with names, administrative data, research not marked confidential
  • Low Risk: public information available to all members of the University

The Information Security Policy Updates training will also help everyone know what to do in the event of a security incident where data and information may have been compromised.

Total Rewards

2024 Child Care Subsidy

To continue to help support the constant rising cost of child care, the University of Rochester provides eligible employees a Child Care Subsidy Program. The Child Care Subsidy Program offers financial assistance by providing annual funds of up to $3,600 a year, depending on total household gross income, to eligible employees to assist with child care expenses. Employees will need to complete and submit an application, and supporting documentation by Monday, September 25. Apply now or learn more.

Tuition Reimbursement Reminder

To ensure timely tuition reimbursement, proof of tuition cost, payment, and successful course completion along with your employee ID must be received by the Office of Total Rewards via email no later than 90 days following course completion. For more information, please visit the Tuition Benefits website.

Retiree Eligibility Grace Period Reminder

As first announced in September 2020, any faculty or staff member who meets the previous service requirements, including completion of 10 years of service, will have the opportunity to retire on or before December 31, 2023. Beginning January 1, 2024, to meet eligibility for retiree benefits, retired faculty and staff must have completed 15 years of service at the University of Rochester alone or combined with service from another higher education institution.
