Harassment and Discrimination Training

We have seen that 2020 is a year that no one will forget. A deadly pandemic and powerful social movements have impacted how we live and work. Like so many institutions, businesses, and organizations around the country, the University of Rochester has experienced unprecedented change. Some changes have required us to quickly adapt, while others will require thoughtful examination, reflection, and long-term systemic transformation.

As new, often remote workplace norms are created, we must not lose sight of our institution’s Vision and Values and our commitment to fostering a culture of respect. To that end, and in compliance with state and federal law, the University of Rochester requires all employees to complete an annual training on how to identify and react to workplace harassment and discrimination. Along with the numerous plans and activities outlined by President Mangelsdorf and Chief Diversity Officer Ramirez Fernandez, this training is an important component of our efforts to address the damaging effects of racism, sexism, bigotry, and discrimination.

Next week, the recently updated Preventing Harassment and Discrimination course will be added to your MyPath learning transcript.  All employees are required to complete this course by September 30, 2020. You will receive a message to log into MyPath and launch the course under My Learning Transcript.

The course provides interactive scenarios and powerful examples of harassment and discrimination and it encourages all of us to be active in ending these harmful behaviors. This course also includes reminders of existing laws and University policies and systems that address these complex issues.

We encourage you to take this opportunity to evaluate your own behaviors and to engage with the content while thinking about how you can contribute to make the University of Rochester ever better. By working together, we can ensure safe, enjoyable and equitable workplaces for everyone.

For more information about the training as well as additional opportunities for online and in-person training, visit the Office of Equity and Inclusion online.

If you have any questions or concerns about this training please contact the University Office of Learning and Organizational Development via email and we will do what we can to answer questions or accommodate any special needs.
