Paid sick leave allows for protected time away for all employees.

Effective January 1, 2021 there are expanded reasons and qualified family members that sick leave can be utilized for. These include illness, injury, domestic violence, or medical care for yourself or a qualifying family member. Qualifying family members include:

  • Spouses
  • Domestic partners
  • Children
  • Parents
  • Siblings
  • Grandparents
  • Grandchildren

All full-time employees have a minimum of 56 hours of paid sick leave each calendar year. All part-time and time-as-reported (TAR) employees get up to 56 hours of paid sick leave based on hours worked.

Medical Center staff with PTO have expanded use for their PTO: It can be used for the above illness-related concerns for themselves or a qualifying family member, or it can also be used for vacation.

 

Changes to Leave Plan Designation Terminology

The University’s leave and disability plans have historically been linked to an employee’s pay grade. To align with our new job structure launched on January 31, 2024, the University’s paid leave policies have been updated with new terminology used to designate leave plans. The plans remain the same and there is no impact to staff.

Discontinuing the Time Off to Receive a COVID-19 Vaccine Policy
