2022 Performance Evaluations for University Staff

Spring marks the launch of the annual performance evaluation cycle for University Staff (does not include the Medical Center Staff, which launched earlier this year).

This process provides an opportunity for both managers and staff to:

  • receive feedback and evaluate progress over the last year; and
  • set goals, plan projects, and establish timelines for the year ahead.

In 2021, in an effort to capture the extraordinary efforts of faculty and staff during challenging times, the University modified the traditional performance evaluations, and shifted the evaluation timeline to better accommodate manager and staff needs.

In 2022, after much consideration and feedback from our community, rather than return to the pre-2021 traditional performance evaluation, the University is launching an updated template that reflects our current approach to our work.

The 2022 Performance Evaluation Template:

  • is a hybrid of the pre-2021 traditional approach and the 2021 focus on our Meliora values, including our commitment to an inclusive culture
  • returns to a rating system for some topics:
    • this has been enhanced to include a description of each level, rather than a “star” system
    • the number of choices for each rating has been simplified
  • aims to provide opportunities for objectivity and reflection while considering the challenging circumstances of our environment over the last year and set expectations for the year ahead.

2022 Performance Evaluation Schedule for University Staff (does not include the Medical Center Staff):

  • Staff self-evaluations: April 1 – May 1
  • Manager evaluations: May 2 – June 15

For Managers

Key job responsibilities and performance goals established during the previous review cycle will be rated this year, therefore:

  • prior to the performance evaluation launch, please ensure that staff members have reviewed and updated their goals from the previous year; and
  • please review your team hierarchy in HRMS and MyPath to ensure that all of your current staff members are appearing on your profile, and will therefore be assigned the proper manager review.

If you have any questions, please contact your supervisor or your HR Business Partner.
