What does an Ambulatory Technologist do?

The Ambulatory Technologist (also known as “Amb Tech”) assists providers during patient appointments in doctor’s offices and clinics. The Amb Tech may escort the patient from the waiting room to the exam room and provide comfort and care to the patient during the visit. They use a variety of office and medical equipment, which may include blood pressure machines and pulse oximeters for vital signs, blood collection materials, and a variety of surgical/specialty instruments. The Amb Tech will use a computer to enter information into the electronic medical record system and may restock the exam room after the visit.

Minimum education and experience

High school diploma or equivalent, plus one year of experience in a customer-focused/service setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Associate degree preferred.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures, as well as computer experience, is preferred. As the Ambulatory Technologist position will require extensive interaction with patients, strong customer service skills are necessary.

Days and hours will vary depending on location and may include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Position locations

Outpatient provider offices and clinics.

Work environment

Patient interaction in a clinical setting.

Pay Range

$17.00 – $22.10 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
